Anyone use wheatgrass?

I heard it was really good for you, so bought a juicer and some seed, but to be truthful never really felt any benefit.
Anyoned here use it and feel it does any good?

anyone?

ratebeer 02-20-07 06:37 PM

I think it tastes delicious and it makes me feel good inside. I've never had an appreciable gains from it though.

Ive tried it from Jamba Juice as a shot with oj. Pretty good.

Not straight, but that green juice you see a lot of the trendy juice brands make (Naked Green Machine is the one I can think of off hand)... that stuff is liquid gold. Looks nasty, but tastes amazing. Just the right consistency and sweetness, nice and hearty. Whenever my throat is itchy or dry, that juice is so soothing. No idea if the small amount of wheatgrass has anything to do with anything, but I'm hooked.

Looks gross, tastes so-so. Apparently quite healthy, though.

Odwalla superfood is the best.

I tried wheat grass for a while. First the one ounce in the morning regime. Then it went to two ounces in the morning. It was maybe 3-4 times a week. All this was at a local heath food store or Jamba Juice. I cannot tell the difference healthwise. This went on for about 3 months.

The big difference at the beginning was the bowel movements. Also the color of the feces turns green. As far as bike riding, I cannot tell any performance difference. My guess is that if you're taking green leafy vegetables in your diet, its enough.

Can you smoke it?

jamesstout 02-22-07 03:02 AM

what are thge reputed +ves - its very costly more than $2 a shot in the uk from juice bars

Gotte 02-22-07 03:49 PM

I heard a shot has the equivalent of 1kg of veg, but then I also read the whole wheatgrass thing was invented by some mad woman who saw cows eating grass, theorised cows don't get cancer (they do), and went about grinding it up to drink.

I've even heard that it has hardly any of the levels of vitains and mineral levels claimed. But then again, it always crops up in the anti=cancer/healthy eating diets.

Guess the jury is still out for me.

I remember reading that story, I forget the woman’s name, but she said that she cured her cancer by consuming wheat grass. I also heard that she got some other sort of cancer, and that ended up killing her. I wish I remembered more about the details, but I read the story about 10 years ago, so I am probably wrong.

Ever heard of shark cartilage? Same flawed logic.

Gotte 02-24-07 02:18 AM

Yes, I remember shark cartilage. My father had cancer, and I did a lot of research at the time. You're right, the logic was that sharks didn;t get cancer, therefore shark cartilage was the thing to take. I forget why the cartilage was supposed to be the thing that did you most good. I also forget why it was disproved.
I also remember reading about apricot kernels, which supposedly work wonders. They apparently contain high levels of cyanide (though aparently roasting them gets rid of this). I remember reading again that there was no justification for taking them. Though my father in law, who has terminal cancer, eshewed the advice to take them from another "terminal" cancer sufferer who has taken them for, I believe, five years and is still going strong (much as I know this is no evidence, and probably has something to do with how these "cures" get the wind behind them).
