It is, in my opinion. But at least it can lead to peer review and follow-up studies by less biased sources.

I doubt it has much to do with tea. Apparently, it has been discovered that caffeine is not a diuretic. Therefore, tea and coffee will hydrate almost as well as water. This is discussed in Monique Ryan's Sports Nutrition for Endurance Athletes.
