Loose skin VS Fat

Please don't laugh. I went from 172-174 to 147-148 in the past year and a half. Although about 12 pounds of that were in the last two month. Now when I look in to the mirror stomach looks flatish and love handles look pretty small. I am just wondeing how much of that is loose skin, and how much of it is fat. Is there a way to tell without doing those expensive tests that measue fat %?

Thank You.

Here are some tape-measure body-fat estimators you could try:

I would be surprised if you have meaningful amounts of loose skin (like, in terms of people who've lost hundreds of pounds and need surgery to bring in the folds of flesh), even after losing ~15% of your starting weight (good job on that by the way!). But, you never know (I sure don't, and besides, if a little floppiness here and there is 'what 15% body-fat looks like', that's not so bad.)

Usually you can get a pinch test at a university or doctor for pretty cheap. Make sure they do at least three body areas and do each area more than once.

Most gyms will do this at N/C or a minimal charge at best. Either they will “pinch” you with the calipers or put you on one of the scales that measure impedance. For Males they usually pinch the (CAT) Chest, Abdominal, Thigh.

According to some charts I found on Internet between 132-172.
According to that fat calculator:
You have 9% body fat.

You have 13.3 Pounds of fat and 134.7 Pounds of lean (muscle, bone, body water).

Not sure how accurate it actually is.

Well it certainly isn't as accurate as getting a skin fold test or even a fat % scale(electrical impedence) but you seem to be at a normal weight assuming you have a decent amount of muscle from exercise.

Keep in mind that if you have excess skin it can take up to two years to "shrink" back down. Also, losing some more fat will help the skin to hold tight against your muscles and appear less saggy than if you are just 5 lbs heavier. And finally, putting a copper based lotion on your skin can help to make it a little more taught as well as consuming some liver regularly.

I think that tape-measure estimators, impedance scales, and calipers are all about the same level of error rate, actually. Give or take operator-error on top of the estimate error, of course.
