New to indoor cycling, computer question!

Hey all, I just bought my first trainer (Cycleops F2). The current computer I'm using is a Cat Eye that mounts on the fork. I think the wire is long enough to reach the rear wheel, is there any reason why I shouldn't try to retrofit the sensor on the seat stays?

I know they make rear computers, but I don't really want to buy another one at this time. I will be using this bike on the trainer all winter long as I have a cross bike that I will use outdoors.

Thanks for the advice.

Rick

I was wondering the very same thing this morning but my computer is on my road bike which i'll store for the winter, i have an old hybrid on my trainer. My computer is a Sigma and i know you can buy a kit which includes everything but the actual computer so all you do is switch the computer to whichever bike you're using. The wire on mine is definitely long enough to use on the rear wheel....don't see any reason why it wouldn't work.

If the wire reaches why not.

What model do you guys have? It really just depends on whether or not you can mount on the chainstay and still have it read from the rear wheel. I don't mean to sound snobby when I say this, but I've never done it because applying mileage and speed on a trainer has very little basis in reality. I've averaged "31 mph" on a trainer, which I sure can't average on the road. You're much better served to train with heart rate, or POWER!! Try spinervals DVD's. I love the things, and I can really feel the results quickly.

Good point bpohl, for me it'd just be for keeping track of total time and distance on the bike

Just realised using the same computer WILL mess up the average speed reading so best to buy a cheapy strictly for the trainer.
