Activity Bars
 

I had the great pleasure of trying out some Detour Activity Bars. I was also asked to post my feedback on these bars so here we go :)

They were three different types of bars:

1.) Detour Runner Bar-Chocolate Chip Cookie Bar
This bar was good. It was soft in texture ( I like this cause some bars seem to get hard when you purchased them). I'm not a runner as much as an avid biker, but I still tried this bar after running on the treadmill after the gym. It was a great, quick fix til I was able to make a meal.

2.) Detour Biker Bar-Raspberry Dark Chocolate Bar
I like this bar I think there needs to be alittle more work on the taste, but overall I liked it. It states its a dark chocolate bar, which I believe it needs more of that dark chocolate flavor. Its a little too sweet. Now I'm an endurance mountain and road rider and I even brought a few for my friends to try. One person mentioned that dark chocolate has more of a bitter flavor taste to it and that this bar lacked that flavor. I did however like the raspberry flavor. One thing I felt that was missing was softness, definitely not as soft as the runner bar. Its a bar I would take on a long ride with me. 3.) Detour Core Strength Bar-I just ate this bar after any workout being going to the gym, biking etc. Nothing I can mention in regards to this bar that I haven't already covered.

I haven't had the opportunity to taste all the flavors. There are 3 types of bars with different flavors. The chocolate chip cookie bar was the best as far as flavor.

I thought these bars are off to a great beginning as far as each bar having a beneafit for a specific activity.

The biker bar is an all natural energy bar with "Rhodiola" to help improve muscle stamina and recovery.
The runner bar is an all natural energy bar with "MicroLactin" for joint health.
I can't remember what the core strength bar was for cause I ate them all! :)

I will comment that none of these bars made my stomach hurt, which I have found with other bars on the market.

Would I continue to use this bars? Personally with a few minor changes to the flavor and freshness of the bars. YES.

Anyhoo, I hope that some of you out there have the opportunity to try these bars.

Hmmmm now this is an interesting thread. I've had a bit to do with this company in the past and whilst I cant speak for their 'new' range their old products were shocking in my opinion.

More interestingly where does this fall in the advertising policy of this website. Is this a 'paid' advert? Ive noticed quite a few mods lock threads started by 'business' interests (more recently voltman in the road forum).

So is this an innocent consumer review or is it paid advertising. I personally dont like this 'blurring' of the line. Is there one rule for non blue star and another for the blue stars?

For example from time to time I get free stuff with regard to the type of work I do in positioning products so am I free to start threads reviewing these amazing products (as part of deal I make with the producer)?

Just curious.

Snickers are better candy bars.

Brian is fully aware of this posting. He was the one that passed the information along to me to try to bars. I even asked him what forum he thought would be best to post this in.

Lets get back to reality. Just because Brian says its ok doesnt make it so.

All I am asking is - was this 'free promo' stock provided to bikeforums.net by the company that owns Detour bars?

If so then at a bare minimum you need to fully disclose this in the original post so forum members understand the nature of the post (advertorial).

If not and you innocently just randomly decided to start a thread on Detour bars that you happened to pay for and try recently then that is fantastic thanks for the independent review.....

I fail to see what has you all atwitter. Shills do not post what they do not like about a product.
Anyhow, whether you disagree about a supposed injustice, it matters not. This is a privately owned site and there is no such thing as free speech.

I could leave it at that, but I will share a few more words. I was approached by a marketing company about trying these products, and reviewing them on my blog. Fair enough. They also asked about posting a review in the forums, to which I suggested that they extend the offer to a member, and if that member felt the product would be of interest to other members, they should participate and then post about them.

If someone finds the information helpful, that's fine. But the only compensation Snowy received was a box of bars to try out. And it was totally voluntary on her part.

I have no problem with this as long as it's made clear the products were supplied by a marketing company. Being told

is not enough IMO.

Ok, I created the slippery slope, and for that I do apologize. I get stuff to test all the time, whereas Snowy probably does not. But there was never any intention to deceive.
