the penut butter mojo bars are delicious. but those are clif mojos, as for just cliff bars i like the chocolate pb too as well as the apple cranberry.

at ralphs they are 10/$10. as in $1 a bar, cheapest i've found them, i got a funny look when i brought the whole box up

are they availiable at normal shops then? I'll be buying 2-3 boxes!

whats a mojo bar, are they the nuttier ones? prob would be a bit to high in fat for riding.

You can buy most of the Clif bars at Wal-Mart of $0.89/ea if you buy the entire box.

I'm going to work on a recipe over the weekend and if it works out, I'll post it up.

I really like the Cliff bars too! Oatmeal rasin is my fav. Nothing I make tastes as good as a Cliff bar. However, I can add the things I want to mine.

Interesting. I tried a couple a few years back and hated them. It looked and chewed like a piece of road tar, and the taste wasn't much better. Have these things improved, or is this just one of those things that we would chalk up to individual preference?

Good question. I love, absolutely LOVE Clif Bars but my wife does not. She thinks that they are too sweet. I prefer the Carrot Cake, the Banana Bread, there is a new Apple something, ooooo and Lemon Poppy Seed! For after rides I really like the Clif Protein Bars. The Chocolate Mint is FABULOUS! A most special treat.

I would really like to try to make some at home too. I think that the kids would have fun helping too. Found this link to some suggestions: http://bikeforums.net/showthread.php...ht=energy+bars

You can still find lemon poppyseed? Those were my favorite and I thought they discontinued them.

NO, they are NOT brownie like in texture. But they are much better than some of the others that I have tried. I actually am getting away from them and using "Fibre One" bars.

jamesstout 12-02-07 02:14 AM

why would you wnat a high fiber low cal bar on a ride?

flip18436572 12-02-07 07:15 AM

The Cliff bar is OK, but I usually don't ride more than two hours at a time, and I don't usually need anything on a two hour ride, except a lot of water. I usually eat well everyday and don't need to worry about a "bonk", but I have the smaller bar in my bag just in case. The Cliff bar is say 250 calories and the Fibre One is 125. I would usually only eat 1/2 of a Cliff bar anyway, so I put the smaller Fibre One bar in my bag.

They are a good thing for me, so I am using them. If I was going to ride a century or something where I would be out for a LONG time, I would probably take a banana or two with me.

My current favorite is Clif Builder's, 20g protein. I found them at a bike shop, and then found out our local Target carries them. I like the chocolate, don't know other flavors. They also have 30g carbs, 270 cals, 70 from fat. Clif says "cocoa dipped double decker crisp bar". They are yum!

Nickel 12-04-07 02:30 PM

Here is the bar recipe that I just made: http://www.vegetariantimes.com/recipes/7768?section=

I sub'd 1 scoop of protein powder in and only used 1/2 the required oats. I probably will add in some dried cranberries or blueberries or nuts next time for a little variety (maybe even some chocolate chips...). I put some peanut butter on them today and they were yummy. Your mileage may vary.

Am I the only one who just eats granola bars from the grocery store? there's about a million kinds, I like the Nature Valley granola bars, yogurt bars, and sweet & salty ones. I wait until they go on the safeway special, and they are $3 for a box of 6 packets. That's $.50/bar instead of $1+, and they taste better. It's just complex carbs & sugar, just like Clif.

I HATE clif bars, for some reason, but usually alternate Gu with granola bars and bananas.

And I'm way too lazy to make my own.
