vomitus
i have a problem with vomiting during races. i have done it maybe 6 times so far over the last year. i used to think i was just out of shape but this is just too regular and i am in fine shape now. it is preceded by coughing and phlegm and is not a lot of vomit as if i were sick. what is wrong with me?

Do you wear anything that constricts the chest or throat during these episodes?
I ask because a friend had this problem when riding using an HRM strap on his chest. Since he stopped wearing the strap he has not had problems.

1. Don't eat solid food in the hour or so before you race.
2. Get tested for EIA.

Aluminium Crusader :-)
Apart from eating too soon before very hard riding, the only other times I've felt like throwing up is when I haven't warmed up properly.
Classic scenario: you drive to a race, get there a little too late, don't get a proper warm-up, then the pace is hot on the first lap -- blah! Unpleasant. If my HR goes straight up to 185 without a warm-up, I usually get an unpleasant feeling in my chest and stomach which can take more than 20 mins to go away.
