Energy with out Red Bull....ect
Energy for rides
OK I have been upping my rides to about 50 miles now and I have been leaving very early in the AM. I have been having some Green Tea and a can of Red Bull(shi$) when I have been doing it and my regular breakfast of Honey nut cheerios and 2 bananas . The Red Bull is a waste of money and I want to have a good energy and (I am not really a morning person so it takes me a bit to get going. I don’t want to start doing a bunch of caffeine again… so any ideas on some good things to eat or drink to get read to rock and roll? During the ride I do have some GU and a power bar… maybe I should have that before I go heh?
Thanks
Charlie

When I was commuting (before corporate downsizing) I had oatmeal with dried cranberries, a small bowl of homemade applesauce (warm), and juice. I think the warm food and acid in the juice got me going.
But then I'm a morning person and never liked coffee.

Yeah- I agree with supcom... the natural high is so much better than the artificial. Why depend on an artifical enhancement that you'll either become accustomed to and your body will adapt to when you can just go with your body's own hormones instead? Taking the artificial stuff may end up doing more harm than good, because when you start getting used to the stuff, eventually, either you have to up the dosage or find something new to give you that edge.
I'm not a morning person either, but I think what you just need is time to get used to the idea of waking up early every day- I get up at 3:45 most mornings to do my rides, and although it's not easy still, I am used to the idea of getting up early. Besides, once that cold air hits my face, I'm WIDE awake!
Just my 2 cents.

That's not morning... it's still night! (And I am a morning person.)

You must go to bed early or take a nap I imagine!
I can see where it would be cool in the summertime to be into a ride an hour or so just as it was getting light though.

It sounds pretty aweful initially, but the more you get used to it, the more accustomed you get to getting up early. I still have to talk myself into waking up that early, but once I get up and moving, it's good to go, but I don't truly wake up until I get out there and start the ride and the wind just pimp slaps me in the face- every time I leave out, I'm always promising mysel a nap when I get back, and every time I get back from my ride, getting back into bed for a nap is the last thing I'm thinking about.

Hey Kof,
I get up at the sametime. It's a different world at that time of the morning. I have had cars pull up to me and ask me if I was crazy or not. I always say, nope just going to work so I can get home sooner..... heheheheh....
Well time for bed for me...
