No caffeine Power Gels?

Hello,

I am wondering if there are any good Gels or bars out there for quick energy that do not have caffeine in them? I am a recovering caffeine addict and dont want to take a white chip at my next meeting... seriously though are there some good ways to get the energy boost with out the caffeine?

Thanks
chaz

Powergel from powerbar has non-caffeinated, caffeinated and double caffeinated. I believe there are some other. I do not know the names off the top of my head.

Banana flavored GU has no caffiene.

That being said caffienated GU has about 25mg of caffiene (about the same level as a cup of green tea). A Starbucks coffee has over 500mg. If you are a regular coffee drinker the amount in GU is neglegible.

In the powerbar line, the Tangerine is double caffeinated (50 mg), and the Strawberry Banana, Chocolate and Green Apple have 25 mg. All the other flavors do not have caffeine.

Clif Shots come in caffeinated and decaffeinated. Plus, they have the litter leash!

HammerGel also has both caffienated and non caffienated
versions.
I also like the leash on Cliff Shots, wish all gel manufacturers
would use this idea.
One of the things that really ticked me off at HHH was all
the gel packs laying around on the side of the road.
if you use em, just put the empties in your pocket, hell it
washes out.
sorry for the mini rant.

I love the Vanilla and Raspberry Clif Shots... Chocolate does not have caffeine either.

Strawberry and Mocha do have caffeine so watch out for them.

Love the litter leash!

I was under the impression that caffeine was a bad thing for athletes as is it a diuretic. I had the joy of a kidney stone last year and my doctor told me that dehydration is a big factor. One of the first things that she advised was to lay off the caffeinated beverages.
I did a half marathon last year which was sponsored by clif shot. The non-caffeinated versions were awesome.

Most of the GU's don't have any caffeine. I use them and love them.

Had some GU 'original flavor' last week-end at a rest stop on a century. Ugh. Does anybody like it? Maybe some people don't want flavoring for some health reason?

Obligatory thread content: It doesn't have caffeine.

Raspberry Cream Powerbar Power Gel doesn't have any caffiene but it is so sweet it will knock you on your @$$!
My personal favorite is Green Apple. Yum.

I've also tried Carb-Boom. Don't know if it has caffiene but it tastes great.

Warning: thread drift ahead

RonH's post reminded me of something I've noticed at times. Have you ever eaten a gel and it immediately made you thirsty as h377? I've had it happen a couple of times with PowerGel. I think it was because it was so sweet.

Also, I second Ron's comment on the Carb-Boom. Tried a couple of flavors for the first time last week-end. Very tasty, and no, they don't have caffeine.

Hey, Chaz! Caffeine's my last remaining vice and I doubt I could pedal the road of happy destiny without it. I'm thinking of writing PowerGel and asking them to make a triple caffeinated gel.

Seriously, though, try the plain or banana flavored GUs.

It must be for the kids who ate paste in Kindergarten. Except that it doesn't even taste that good.

I don't know why this has come up so much lately in the media.

Caffeine has been thought to have a diuretic effect, but it is miniscule if at all.

The boost you get from the caffeine far outweighs the negatives of the diuretic effect.

Disclaimer: Not promoting caffeine use, just merely stating a point. I don't use caffeine (except green tea and yerba mate).
