Both ways

You can't have your cake and eat it, too, Mom used to say to me.
She was right (darn!). You can't have it both ways. You can't eat like a cyclist and sit on the "stool of do-nothing."

If you want to eat heartily, you must exercise heartily. If you don't want to exercise, don't eat more than a handful of food each day.

The other day, a friend asked me (nothing new), "Are you going to waste away to nothing?" I couldn't help but think, "In ten more years, what will you look like?"

A friend of mine recently got $700 from a former employer in a settlement of a claim. He has categorically stated that he won't be buying dinner for me (skinny little me) with it. He says there would be none left.

I think I'm like many folks. If I ride a lot I still must eat "like a bird", just a large bird.
When I don't ride, I have to eat like a small bird on a diet.

Bikes: My frame is covered in reflective tape. After adding ridiculously large handlebars, a comfy seat, and enough carrying capacity to haul a Thanksgiving grocery run home, the manufacturer wouldn't recognize it.

If I were the type to enter eating contests, I'd probably do quite well. At age 32 and a regular cyclist, I can pack away so much more food than I could when I was a sedentary 18-year old.

I once knew someone "Chuck" who was in a buffalo-wing eating contest at a restaurant. Chuck and one other contestant remained, and they had both packed away a few dozen buffalo-wings. At some point, Chuck called the waitress over and ordered a very large slice of cheesecake. The other contestant asked Chuck if he was dropping out. Chuck replied, "Nah, I'm just taking a short break." The other contestant got psyched out and instantly dropped out of the contest.

I might be able to do something similar if I had a bottle of Tums at my side. But I don't think I'd want to. The bicycle ride home afterwards would not be too pleasant.
