    Seat Soreness

Can someone recommend a good product (i.e., lotion, powder) for preventing/treating soreness from long rides. Thanks

    Hi charlieh,

I have been using Butt'R for the last 12000 miles. Its cost around 10 bucks a large tube at your LBS. I treat the chamois just before a ride and even put a little on myself. This is just a chamois lube not a medical treatment if you already have sores.

Depends on what kind of soreness. If it's a question of abrasions and saddle sores, something like chamois butt'r, bag balm, or even hand lotion, applied to the contact area before a ride should make you more comfortable. Always remember to DRY the area carefully after each ride.

If it's a cure you're looking for, you can try any of a number of medicated ointments and creams. I like ihle's paste. Some people like the creams used for diaper rash. It's all the same.
when walking, just walk. when sitting, just sit. when riding, just ride. above all, don't wobble.

you can actually make your own cream/ointment. basically, most creams/ointments are paraffin oil or petroleum jelly based with an antibacterial ingredient. all that is, basically, is vaseline jelly mixed with savlon cream, some people make this concoction up themselves. the vaseline helps to lubricate the contact between skin and chamois to prevent inflammation and the savlon will prevent any infection if the skin does split and get sore.

i don't know what is available in usa but here in uk i use a product called 'sportsbalm', made by 'harmeling products', a dutch company. website is www.sportsbalm.com maybe it's available in the usa?
