MID Back Pain--frame too small?

Howdy, I've been riding a lot on an 18" Kona Hoss this year, about 50-75 miles a week. I've noticed as I ride more I get a nasty middle back pain, right between my shoulder blades. I hoped it would go away as I got stronger but it hasn't. I got a good deal on this frame but I always suspected it was too small. I'm 6' 2" and have a long torso. Maybe it's something else causing the pain, but assuming it is the frame size is there anything I can do to "stretch" my back out more without buying a new expensive bicycle?

Anyone else have this problem?

I had issues with back and shoulder pain after buying a new bike last spring

I took the bike to a LBS for a fitting and they recommended a shorter stem. We switched from a 110 to a 90 and the bike feels great.

The LBS charged $20 for the fitting and the stem was another $20. Assuming that is within your budget, it was worth it for me to be pain free.

Good Luck

You could swap out the stem to a longer size and/or a higher rise. You may have luck just flipping the stem over.

What is the stem size now? If you go too long (130mm+), you may have handling issues.

The one on there now is a 90. I just feel like I'm having to arch my back when I ride. In order to stretch out I have to scoot way back on the seat which then causes me to lose balance.

Maybe if I stretched the bars out a little further and got a seatpost with a jog in it to give me another inch or so back there.
