Tendonitis in the Knee
Anyone have experience with tendinitis in the knee(s)? After finishing AOMM, seen to have some in my left knee. Two days off the bike after, did an easy spin on Thurs. nite, pain back Fri. AM, not quite as severe as Tues. AM. Sat, rode about 25mi, moderate pace, pain back again. Climbing stairs and ramps seen to be more painful than flat surfaces, but the forward walking motion causes a twinge. Have iced it ystd. & today, as well as used an electronic "stim". This does provide some relief. Anti-inflammatory medications (Advil, Tylenol) don't seem to help much. Questions are:
1. If you have experience with this, what is generally the recovery time.
2. Any other suggestions as to self-treatment, would like to make the doctor the last choice.

I have had tendinitis - rest and taking it easy works. To help keep it from coming back, keep the knees warm - I wear knee warmers up to 70 degrees. Otherwise, you really need to be sure it's tendinitis and not another problem. That's my 2 cents.

hate to tell you this....i got tendonitis/bursitis in my right knee last may. went to dr and he told me not to ride for a "while". so, i took about 2 wks off and started back. checked back in at 4wks and it was painful enough that he was pissed and told me to stay off the bike for 4 more wks. totally off the bike. i was off the bike pretty much the whole summer, from the middle of may until the middle of july.
when i started riding again, all the fitness gains i had made over the winter were gone....anyways, stretching your hamstrings, inner thighs, calves, hip flexors has helped a lot; i also saw a PT who helped me tremendously with the stretching and making my knee/leg feel a lot better. i still go see him ocassionaly so that he can "enable" me to ride.... lots of ice right now and wrapping with ace bandage helped me. plus the dr had me on 800mg of ibuprofen 3x a day for a while.
i do knee warmers in anything below around 65F. i've learned to spin more too. before this, i was more of a masher. just take care of it....

Prolo Therapy
Try Prolo Therapy. It works.

I had some It band issues and the Prolo worked. Also make sure you are riding floating pedals. Speedplay have the most flotation.

I'd see a doctor. I've done centuries, raced, overtrained and everything else. But one thing that never bothered me is my knees or legs for that matter. Other than the usual fatique.I've had sore necks, back or just felt completely worn out but my knee never bothered me. See you doctor. There may be something wrong with the way you pedal..........................
