Ankle injury: Any suggestions?
About a month ago, I had the beginnings of an ache in my left arch, which only affected me with pain in the morning and evening. Once I was on the bike and proceeding throughout my day, all was fine...until 7 p.m. Then, last Thursday, I took a spill in the wet leaves at 4 a.m. on my way to the gym (a six mile ride from home). I didn't realize how many body parts had made contact with the concrete and pavement. (Fortunately, I was wearing my helmet-- an even greater believer in them now.) It seems that not only does the pain come from my arch, but now from an ache on the outside joints of the ankle. Any advice? I continue to ride my bike ten miles a day, but wonder if I should lay off for healing. Thanks,

Take time off and see a doctor asap.
If you can't see a doctor, I suggest doing the RICE- rest, ice, compression, and elevation. Alternate between using ice and heat packs every 5- 10 minutes while you're elevating the ankle.
Dood, if you keep riding, you'll never recover fully, and this will effect your riding later. It may take a few weeks- maybe 2 to 3 weeks of no riding (I'd take 3- 4 weeks to be on the safe side), but you've got to take the time to heal or you'll end up reinjuring yourself and having an even worse injury that could take you off the bike for some serious time.

Thanks, Koffee
I think I will take your advise and see a doctor. I don't want to take any more time off the bike than I have to, and I also want to get ready for some great hiking this season.

Feet are important, take care of them. There is no gain from pain in the feet. I've sprained and broken my ankles too many times to remember and wish I had let them heal properly the first time it happened. I'm convinced it never healed correctly and I suffer from arthritis every day....and its no way to go thru life.
In summation, let it rest and heal at all costs.
