I did my first round last Feb through April. I was not into cycling at that point but the leg workouts definitely helped once I got onto the bike in March. I am now going to go through my second hybid round by using the trainer on plyometrics and cardio days. And I will be doing YOGA only because it is freakin HARD and I like the challaege and the flexability it gives me!!! I highly recommend P90x (for those who are fit to begin with).

I just found this thread and read it from beginning to end. I did the original Power 90 program 4 years ago and lost a bunch of weight - 210 pounds down to 1bout 180 - then stopped and went back to 195ish. Then I got motivated again and started doing Power 90, Biggest Loser videos and Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. I lost nearly 40 pounds and went from 192 down to 155. I was running quite a bit, riding my bike and doing videos. My wife and I started doing P90X and it was amazing to me how great I felt and how much strong we both got. I considered myself to be in good shape - but we did 90 days of workouts and I was getting comments from strangers about how good I looked. I went to 160 pounds and decreased my fat % while increasing my muscle mass. People asking me about working out and that I looked ripped - it was really wierd. Near the end of the 90 days I started adding in more running and doing a lot of doubles - and I was in the best shape of my life. I was never a runner - but some friends convinced me to run a half marathon and I did it in 1:45 finishing in the top 1/3 of the pack. I didn't do too much running or videos all summer and I stuck mostly to biking - and I started to feel a little crappy again. Long story short - I started the P90X workouts again and I am just finishing up week 4 so ready to start the 2nd phase and I am feeling great again. It was crazy how much I regressed on my strength, flexibility and stamina in a few months. The videos keep me motivated, help me get stronger and help me with my biking and running too. I am planning to continue to do the workouts indefinitely - and I also plan to train for a full marathon something in 2010.
There is no magic pill or easy way out - the P90X program is just a really effective, well rounded total body workout system that works if you do the work. It costs about the same as few months at a health club - but you can do it over and over again so in my opinion it is a great buy - especially if you get it for less than retail!

I do a similar workout to the P90X at a local "Boot Camp" studio and it really helps me to have a place and structure to keep me motivated! I started at 215 Jan 2009 and am at 167 and ripped with some crazy stamina/endurance! Classes are 1hr 3 days a week. Oh yeah...I'll be 50 this month and am at less than 7% BF! Started at 25%!

How much room does it take? I have a small liviing room and with the furniture, I only have maybe a 5' circle possibly 7'.
I've done exercise videos before, stepping, music dance videos, and grew tired of doing it quickly. Probably because I didn't see the results quick enough. Do these videos motivate you enough to keep doing it? How long is one workout session? I'd be starting on the first level, the first video.

I am possibly one of the most unmotivated people! And I managed to stay motivated through P90X and after completing it I still go back and do the videos. The workout sessions range from about 15 mins (ab ripper) to 1:30 (yoga) but most cardio is around 1 hour and the muscle building ones are around 45-50mins.

Plan on spending 60-90 minutes 6 days a week doing this program. The cardio days are around 60 minutes, the strength days are 50-60 minutes plus the 16 minutes of Ab Ripper X and the Yoga is 90 minutes. You don't need too much space - but you do need a doorway to put a chinup bar (I use the Iron Gym version that was around $30), some dumbells or exercise bands and that is about it. Do it!

I was bidding at eBay and their prices seem to go up pretty high to only a few dollars less than if you bought directly from P90x, extremebodyworkout.
Are there any advantages to buying direct from them? You do get the support and possibly a forum?
Some vendors on eBay are selling the complete program with the nutritional guide which includes recipes I think. Others are selling only the exercise DVD without the nutritional guide, isn't the nutritional guide a critical aspect of the program?
One vendor is selling the complete program on DVD including the nutritional guide requiring you to print out the nutrional guide. Is this good? Would there be any reason for me to get the program on the original hardcopy?

Well I think most of those on ebay are just copies... however I could be wrong. When I saw one (a few years back) it was about £15 buy it now.

Just completed my first week of px90, love it and am sore. I got my copy from ebay about $50 less than the web site. The booklet is full of typos, but that's about the only thing I see different than what they sell at beachbody.com

Now that I've been laid off I have no good reason not to get in extra training. I'll try the P90X cardio stuff in the AM unless I'm at the gym; then get on the trainer in the afternoons. Hopefully I can knock off 15-20 lbs before going back to work.

I started P90X a couple weeks ago. Naysayers and non-P90X'ers shouldn't be posting here, IMO. It works, its tough and it will build muscle. Strength, endurance and flexability all in one program.
I am 6'1" and weighed 206. No one would have ever called me fat but I had belly fat (I'm 43). After two weeks I am down to 190 (this morning) and already more defined. I used to be able to do 3 pull ups, now 6 - already. The resitance days with Ab Ripper X at the end of it are grueling. My ab muscles are begining to show around the edges of my now disappearing belly fat. Yoga X is also very tuff, I sweat profusly during this DVD. Fun but tough DVD's.
I will be done near the end of April and will post my before and after photos. I pray I stay motivated to keep the P90X schedule - the toughest part of the program. I wish I had someone to work the program with.

I got P90X set off eBay for $68 delivered. It showed up on Saturday and I started on Sunday. I've done two work outs so far - Sun/Mon. So far so good. I was sore yesterday and this morning but after I did 45 minutes on the bike trainer, I'm ok. I am doing the Lean version which is more cardio for weight loss.
I'm 42, 6'1" and 241.5 lbs this morning. I started losing weight on December 21st and have lost 12 pounds in 6 weeks. I've added the P90X program to keep me motivated going forward.
I'm shooting for 180 pounds when I'm done. And having a stronger core and upper body to go along with my legs would be nice too.

I'll add my two cents for what it's worth. There have been a lot of good observations by many of the members. I agree that the results could be achieved by any one with the will power to do the exercises, stick to the nutrician program and tough it out. On the other hand, it seems many of us cyclists don't concentrate on strength training unless it's lunges, squats or calf raises. Being able to balance the strength of our core and legs with our upper bodies could only be a good thing.
Isn't that what it's about? Balance?
So the DVD's show a person some new/old techniques to re-build some muscle and help burn some extra fat. They also helped me point out some flaws in my training.
I'm 38 next week, 6'2" and 214lbs as of last night. I ride mostly road right now and last year my total was 3000km. Not bad and I'm hoping to do better.
As part of the DVD program, they want you to do a preliminary weigh in/measurement/fit test which i did last night and man was I disappointed! 38" waist? Only 1 pull up!?! I hadn't done push ups since my karate days as a teen but I go to the gym a few nights a week. I've got a decent program, ( I thought anyway ) which I finish up with an hour on the spinning bikes.
Looking at the chest and back DVD I'm going to get my ass kicked on this. BTW I'm supposed to "shred fat" with an intake of more than 3000 calories a day! This meal plan is going to be a pain.
I'll see you all in 90 days I guess...

I have two questions about this;
1. How much flexibility is gained doing this? I like seeing there is yoga and stretching involved, so I think they thought about the whole deal.
2. Did someone say they recommend a 40% protein, 30% carbs/fat calories diet? I know I've seen lots of places refer to the kidney damage you can get from too much protein, since your body can't store protein (like it can with fat or carbs) and the kidneys have to break it down (needs b vitamins and calcium). I believe the recommended amount is (.38g / lb) 0.8g per kg body weight to 2gram per kg body weight (endurance sports).
Some sources:
https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritio...x.html#howmuch
https://www.medicinenet.com/script/ma...ticlekey=50900
https://weighttraining.about.com/od/n...in_howmuch.htm
https://www.thedoctorwillseeyounow.co...t/art2059.html
Sorry, I know these are substitutes for medical advise, but they raise my concern and I was curious if anyone has talked with medical professionals about this? Or is the recommended diet only for the weight loss portion of the program?
Thanks.

As you continue through the stages, (1-3) the dietary guidelines change. They also recommend a nutritional supplement, (their own brand of course) to increase your daily intake of vitamins like the B's, C and calcium as well as anti oxidents to help keep things clean.
On my program here is week 1-4. My caloric intake is supposed to be 2400-3000. I found a guide online to figure out what a serving of each catagory was supposed to be.
PROTEINS - 7DAIRY - 3FRUITS - 1VEGETABLES - 4FATS - 1CARBS - 1SNACKS - 3DBLBARDRINKCONDIMENTS - 2WATER - 8SUPPLEMENTSACTVPFSFCALOMG3
Week 4-10
PROTEINS - 6DAIRY - 2FRUITS - 1VEGETABLES - 3FATS - 1CARBS - 3SNACKS - 3DBLBARDRINKCONDIMENTS - 2WATER - 8SUPPLEMENTSACTVPFSFCALOMG3
Week 11 to end
PROTEINS - 3DAIRY - 1FRUITS - 3VEGETABLES - 3FATS - 1CARBS - 4SNACKS - 3DBLBARDRINKCONDIMENTS - 3WATER - 8SUPPLEMENTSACTVPFSFCALOMG3
So the initial lack of carbs, fruits and such looks to promote your body scavenging it's own resources first instead of relying on the easy energy that comes from the carbs/fruit combo. They stress the protein heavy diet because in the first session is where most of the strength is going to be built. Session two reduces some of the strength training, building on plyometrics and stretching. Session 3 increases cardio work.
I've just gotten over a cold so I'll start on the DVD's tonight provided I don't have to spend too much time shovelling snow.

Does ANYONE have some progress shots they are willing to show off. I haven't don't this program in a while, but when i did it was really great. AND HARD. So i don't have anything to contribute other than to say, it doesn't make sense to sit back and try to shoot holes in it with stuff "you think you heard" or "according to what the experts say". It's a structured program of push and pull - that's really it - and its hard enough and fast enough to change your body.
(post up guys, lets see what you've got)

I was bidding on P90X on ebay and watched the price go up. Then I noticed a seller doing a "Buy Now" for $58, with free shipping, so I got it that way. It took a while to arrive since it was coming from Toronto, but the DVDs are new, in their original wrapper. And, while the set didn't come with a written manual, it did come with a link to a PDF download file for all the written materials. This is the best deal I've seen for this.
