Protein supplement without cholesterol?
Hi,
I'm looking for a protein supplement that don't have cholesterol. I have a cholesterol problem, and also I'm fat. I need to loose 25 Kg ~50 lbs. Are there products like this in the market? I intend to take it after aerobic workout of about 2hr every day. My main reason for taking protein is for keeping my immune system intact and also take advantage of the 30 minutes protein window after the workout. The goal is loosing weight, but keep going everyday, and not feel every few days heavy and ill. I have tried for few days drinking 1/2 liter low fat milk with sugar after workout, but it upset my stomach, so I will stop that. But I can say that it did help, and I felt very good after the workout. I don't know if I'm lactose intolerance, because I did drink milk without problem, but not 500ml at one time ;) Your help and opinions are welcomed and appreciated. Thanks, Kfir |
After doing some searching on the net, I found that what I'm looking for is:
Whey protein isolate and hydrolyzed. Isolate is the purification of the protein, so the fat goes down and also the lactose. Hydrolyzed is doing a little of digestion of the protein, which make absorption better. Now the problem is, that some companies say that the product does not contain cholesterol and some do but less then 5mg. So I find it hard to believe that the no cholesterol is actually NO cholesterol. This because I know that in some countries if you have less then, lets say 0.5% of something, you can ignore it or write 0. Also it looks like the products that say 0 cholesterol are of some unknown company, and Optimum Nutrition, which I consider respectable company (from reading forums), don't have 0 Cholesterol product. What do you think? Optimum Nutrition is probably the best out there. I have been taking their supps. for a while now (weight lifting) and am very pleased with the results. If i were you i would also do some resistance training (weight lifting).

Who told you that you shouldn't consume cholesterol if you have a "cholesterol problem" (in theory they mean elevated cholesterol) and what is your cholesterol level anyway?
OK, this is a controversial subject but even the mainstream scientific community KNOWS that the consumption of cholesterol has NOTHING to do with your blood cholesterol level. This is just an unchallenged scientific FACT. So, who has told you that you shouldn't be consuming cholesterol? If its your doctor find another one, FAST! Also there is no such thing as a blood cholesterol level anyway. Seriously, cholesterol is insoluble in blood and travels around your blood stream inside a Lipoprotein. Only animal products have cholesterol. Plant-based proteins from nuts and beans do not. Soy is available in a number of forms such as powder and tofu. Also try canned beans. I like garbanzo beans (chick peas) because they digest well for me and taste good on their own or with various sauces.

My two bobs worth is that people tell us that cholesterol is harmful TRUELY believing that it is but everyone is just too proud to admit to a mistake. To openly admit to a mistake is to put a huge dent in the faith the public places in you and that's a price no one wants to pay just yet. Worse still the public WANTS to place faith in "scientists" so despite the fact that this sort of evidence has been leaking out for years no one WANTS to believe it anyway. Regards, Anthony |

The trouble is that the scientific facts don't explain where the world is at with the dominance of the cholesterol theory despite the lack of evidence to support it. I guess he doesn't know ether. 6 years have passed since this article was published. I wonder if there are some research articles that do advance to new territory, or show he is right. For more articles go to the home page. Thats a whole website full of different scientists and researchers challenging the cholesterol myth. I think that Malcolm Kendricks article really clinically assesses the evidence and science that exists.
