Could use some advice from the medical types here about bone surgery

I crashed my best bike tues nite 9/2/08 and broke my left arm.
The fractures are near the wrist and the big bone is broken into seven segments. Wrist looks ok, from what I hear.

Prob is that surgery is not till next tues (1 week). And hurricane Ike may delay it more, as it is predicted to hit on tues.

What do you think?

In particular, the bone fragments are not anywhere near proper position. So blood flow to these bone sections is missing or reduced.
i have been told by a few docs that the emer room shoukd have never let me out. That it needs emer surgery.

I work with my hands as a Gulfstream 550, Eurocopter EC-135, Pilatus PC-12 and Extra 300L mechanic. I also do precision welding and I have a small, home based machine shop, for precision aircraft part work. I really could use some good guidance.

Thanks.

Chris

So the ER gave you a cast and told you to get an appt with a orthopod? Bones start to fuse within 48 hours...You should have had surgery already.
But of course it's the weekend now and Ike means you're hosed.

Thanks, but unfortunately I have to wait till tues, exactly 1 week. I tried everything I could think of, called every doctor on my insurance list, begged, you name it.

I had a good long talk with the surgeon tonight. He says that my situation is one that is ok to go a week. Not happy, but no other doc will do it as soon. This guy is good, has a good reputation, board certified and fellowship trained. Many of the others bowed out when they saw the scope of the problem.

I hope it is better to wait for a good doc than to patch it up right away. dunno.
