Doctors vist - what blood work to get?

So I am going into the doctors this week. Family members raised some concerns this evening after my losing 6 pounds in 2 days. Went from 170 (170 to 165 is my normal weight during the week) to 164 since Friday. Nothing has changed, just 2 longer rides this week, but eating is normal and I feel fine. Not sure how healthy it is to lose that much weight in 2 days, but apparently it concerned some people so going to get it looked at.

But anyway so I am going to get blood done probably, is their some other tests I should ask to get to reference. Like to see how well tuned by body is?

Drink yourself some water. Rapid weight loss in that style is usually just mild dehydration.

After that, you'll probably get a simple fasting glucose and thyroid panel. For note: diabetes is accompanied by increased appetite, thirst, and frequent urination. Hyperthyroidism includes those and things like fatigue, heart palpitations, tremors, etc.

I find it somewhat unlikely that the first symptom you'd notice is 6 pounds weight loss.

a) Most likely just water weight
b) Not just a matter of dehydration. Carbohydrates are stored as glycogen in the body in a 1:4 ratio with water. 2000 calories of carbs is about 1 pound and requires another 4 pounds of water. So if your glycogen stores are depleted, you will be down about 5 pounds just from that alone.

FWIW, I can do 10 pound swings easily in any 2 day period. Tell the people that are worrying that it is fine, your weight will stabilize, and there is likely nothing wrong with you unless your weight keeps dropping. Also you may have just been over-hydrated when you weighed yourself the 2 days ago. Don't weigh yourself every day.

Its possible its water weight but I do not think I am dehydrated cause I have yet to see the sign of it along with me drinking a lot of water on a regular basis. However thinking about it my intake of food has been a little lower this weekend due to some add stress but nothing crazy. I would say I ate around 2000 calories yesterday and today, with me normally taking in around 3000-4000 sometimes more if I ride that day. I check my weight daily (and no I am not someone that cares about being skinny and losing weight) mainly to keep tabs on how my body is doing in relation to biking and intake. I sit around 160-170 with never going below 160, and not very often making it past 170 (highest after taking a week off was 171). I think its my bodies natural weight span, but I have not seen this big of a difference in 2 days before. It could be the longer rides I did this weekend which were a lot longer then I would normally do.

Im still due need a physical anyway cause I take some medications that can cause blood pressure problems after long term uses (its for stress) so I will just see what the doctors says. I dough their is any concern and as you pointed out its possible such as urself to change 10 pounds in 2 days. Thanks for the input everyone and ill see what comes out of it ha.

if you get a complete blod count (cbc) it pretty much covers everything. You will want to do do it fasting. If you aren't fasting they can't do some of the tests.

Update from todays doctors visit. Theirs nothing physically wrong with me and based on my BMI I should weight around 165 anyway, and I came in at 168 at the office. But BMI is a bunch of bs numbers in my option cause it does not take into effect other factors.

But anyway I got blood taken and should get the break down soon about it.

BMI can be bad at predicting the extremes (i.e. predicting that you are unhealthy if your BMI is low or high). It is most skewed my muscular body composition, making a healhy but muscular man appear to be "overweight". However, if you are in the "normal" range, I doubt that you are very muscular but somehow really "underweight". You are overthinking this.

This is the most likely explanation. BTW, this is why low-carb diets such as Atkins result in rapid weight loss at the start...it is primarily water weight.

I honestly could care less what the doctors thinks if I am over weight by a couple pounds based on a chart. However its all probably water weight as you all pointed out and all is good. I need to get blood taken anyway to look at some other # for a medication I take so the visit was not all lost.

Thanks for the insight into the matter, just wanted to get some info before the doctor that see you for like 2 seconds tells me something else.
