I am cold

So I am seating here in a sweater inside a building with door closed and vents shut down so I can keep my office warm. My desktop (more like a small server with two quad cores), is acting as my heater.

Everyone seem to be fine in just shirt/t-shirts. I need a sweater so I won't freeze. Kind of have been like this for a while since I lost bunch of weight. Not sure if it's because low body fat, or something might be wrong with me. Need to remember to ask doc next time I visit. Although in my experience they are usually pretty clueless if it's not something obvious.

It isn't always so easy to get a new doc. I don't know what the situation is like for the OP, but some places I've lived have had one Dr. That's it. Some places I've lived have had many Drs, but none accepting patients. Some places I've lived have had many Drs, but the few who are accepting patients are doing so for a reason ... they are not good Drs. And in general, I have rarely encountered a really good Dr. I have encountered a few good Drs, but they are few and far between, unfortunately.

If convenience outweighs your health, then stick with the doc you have. It wasn't meant to be a glib response, but if your doc is incompetent or unwilling to deal with you in a manner that you see fit, you need to shop around. Maybe it's different north of the border, but ultimately the patient/client always has a choice, even if the choice is to NOT patronize a certain doc.

But hey...it's only your helath we're talking about.

But did you read what I wrote? Sometimes the only choice we've got is:

Go to the one-and-only Dr available ... or don't go to any Dr. at all.

So to say "Get a new doc." is a rather useless response.

However, from my experience with incompetent Drs, sometimes if you have an idea what the problem might be, you can suggest being tested for that, which might trigger tests for other things, and you might get lucky and be correctly diagnosed. You've got to work with your options.

You would be surprised. Just about anyone who lives in the country or a small town would be in that boat, for a start.

Its most likely a sign of some kind of ill health. I'm not sure if its something to see a doctor about as I get it occasionally. For me it comes and goes and I know that I'm a little down when I get it.

I do however tend to self medicate this symptom by taking fish oil capsules. Seriously omega 3 fats from fish oil is JUST what my body NEEDS to get the furnace firing again.

Ohh and I DO suspect I have some thyroid issues stemming from toxic issues and I am going through a detoxification process. It just takes time and I'm not inclined to go to a doctor with thyroid issues even though they ARE serious as I haven't heard ANYTHING good about mainstream thyroid treatments.

I pretty much wear a sweater/sweatshirt year round in my office. I'll be at a football game wearing a jeans, and a sweatshirt and a fleece jacket to be warm, and people around me are wearing shorts and t shirts.

If you have low body fat (say, under 10%), you don't have a lot of insulation and you get cold easily. It's worse if you don't carry a lot of muscle.

You can have your thyroid checked - I did mine - but my guess is that you won't find anything there.

I am one of those people who is always cold. I don't have a lot of body fat so I don't know if that is a contributing factor, but my hands and feet get cold a lot and I don't have any thyroid issues. When I donate blood I need to use the finger warmers so my iron level will register in the normal range.

maybe something you haven't thought about:

are you eating enough?

i have a really fast metabolism. if i don't eat, i start to get cold and weak. the weakness isn't so apparent when i'm at school, compared to when on the bike or lifting weights, but it's there with the coldness.

i joke with my friends: i don't get tired; i get hungry.

whenever i start exercising again, my metabolism jumps, and i need to eat more. perhaps you're going through a similar situation?

i suppose it's not too hard to check out. when you're in your office next time, and cold, try eating a bagel. see if it helps. digestion kicks out a lot of heat.

I've lost about 65 pounds in 4 years and find I am colder, or more cold sensitive, then I used to be. Perhaps some recent weight loss, however small, has impacted your temperature sensitivity?

Regards

Try getting acclimated.

I had problems with getting cold and decided to try just suffering through it. I figured it was a perception thing. After making a concerted effort I am now less sensitive to the cold.
