Oatmeal - any downside to having this as a go to snack?

I've started eating breakfast in the morning

1C Rolled Oats
1C Milk
1/4C yellow raisins
1Tbsp Brown Sugar

Blend in a magic bullet and chug. I like this as it's quick and fills me up in the AM. I'm curious if this would serve as a good snack in the afternoon and evening?

I run three days a week (5 miles/run) and ride two to three times a week (15-20 miles/ride). I find myself more hungry more often on these days, even within an hour after a meal.

Working to eat more healthy and find some quick filling snacks when I get hungry.

that's not a bad snack idea at all, however you wouldn't want to use this as your only quick fix snack as you need to vary your carb and protein sources and u might get sick of it after a while! It needs a wee bit more protein as well, the inclusion of a little bit more protein will actually aid the uptake of the carbs in this snack into your muscles. Perhaps a hand full of nuts?

Im a big fan of oatmeal. Is really filling and keeps me going for a long while. Just watch out not to eat it to close to your workouts, its gnarly coming back up.

Think I'll try almonds with this.

My local supermarket has rolled oats, golden raisins and almond pieces in bulk. Should do the trick.

I do love bacon, but not in this concoction... though bacon grease migh... nm.

I'd try and cut the brown sugar down to 1tsp unless it's post workout. Otherwise big ups.

no need for the almonds in there. if you are using rolled oats (like you said you were), you are getting 10 grams of protein (and much leaner than almonds), enough for breakfast. 1/4 cup of almonds (whole, not even slivered) will give you 8 grams of protein... and 15 grams of fat.

For a change of flavour try dried apricots or dried mango.

I recently started having steel-cut oatmeal for breakfast it is a nice alternative to rolled oats and it has a nicer texture.

Sounds like a good snack to me.

If you're feeling ravenous much, especially shortly after you've eaten, you might want to add a tiny bit of healthy fats. I had the same problem and spoke with a nutritionist who reviewed my diet and suggested an increase of good fats. It was right on the mark. I didn't feel starved so much and it actually seemed to boost my weight loss.

Might not work for everyone, but something to consider.

I've been able to drop my weight from ~228 to 207 over the last few years. This oatmeal shake helped with this and is a daily for me now...

1C Rolled Oats
1/2C Frozen Fruit
1/2C Yogurt
1/2-1C fruit juice
2-4Tbsp Wheat Germ
2-4Tbsp almond chunks

Blend and chug. I'll also have a variation of this in the evening when I get the munchies to help fill up and not eat junk.

I do have a question regarding the rolled oats... if these are blended to a powder, do they lose any of their 'ruffage' or nutritive qualities? (forgive my ignorance here please)

I have been doing this like this...

1 cup cooked rolled oats
1 scoop Whey Banana or Chocolate Whey Protein Powder
1 Table spoon of Extra Virgin Olive Oil

I add this to 1 cup of water and some Ice and Blend
