Snickers Marathon bars
I like the taste, not as bland as powerbars, at about the same price. But I wonder how they would hold up during a long ride...I usually eat one for breakfast and a snack throughout my day. Anyone eat these on longer rides? if so, how did they work out?

I don't think they will ever go over here in FL. I took one on a ride and it was a melted chocolate mess when I opened it up.

I fugured as much. I just use them for a little kick on m short bursts of two miles or so around campus. They don't really do much for me, but they do taste better than Powerbars. Im lookin for energy, not flavor though...

This is just snickers trying to cash in on the health craze. I looked at the fat content on this bar, and it's actually less fat for some of the normal candy bars out there on the market over the snickers. Sooooooooo... if you don't care about fat (and I mean saturated fat, which is the bad fat), then go for it. But if you're counting your fat grams, and you're working on shaving off fat, and you want an energy bar that's going to give you energy without the extra fat, choose a better option, like a powerbar.

I like the taste of them but not while out riding I can't stand to have melted chocolate it is such a mess.

I split one w/ my s/o on a ride about two months ago, and I did not think it really was any different from just eating a candy bar. Personally, I'd rather a bowl of cereal and some banana's or a bagel or something before a ride. Though it did taste exactly like a Snicker bar.

For me personally i think the bar is a bit too sweet. How are you[ya'll] handling the extra sugars from the tootsie rolls and the snickers bar? i prefer to keep the sugars to a minimum and focus on other natural stuff (natural sugars from oranges and bananas), my cliff bars and gels for energy.
btw the snickers bar is just like the 'original' on taste. i'd rather have a 3musk, or butterfinger if im going to eat a candy bar... :yum: |
I switched back to powerbars, the snickers were not serving up the energy I was looking for, and like everyone said, they got all melty and sick.

Granted eating Powerbars feels like you've reached down and peeled off a section of the roadway to chew on but they're better than nothing and at this point, they're almost universally available. I generally don't carry them myself. Read up a few posts to see which ones I use. |
Does anyone have a cereal bar they recommend (not the crap with the fruity paste in the middle) they could recommend? I'm totally going Wal-mart on this tomorrow, and I would love to have an idea of where to go. Whatever suggested needs to be able to last through lots of heat, since I'll be using them when I do my long rides this summer.
Thanks! Koffee |
In the UK, we used to have Marathon bars, but then some marketing suit renamed them to Snickers.
I hope your not cycling on these sugar and peanut comestibles. I only resort to them at small village grocery stores, usually way past their "sell-by" date. |

Thanks! Koffee Yes! The Kellogs Nutri- Grain Elevenses. They have been tested in a U.K.Magazine and came out tops for taste and energy levels, possibly higher in fat than SOME of the Sports bars, but I Like them. Failing that, I take a bag of Mixed fruit with me, and this helps aswell. |
Do a search for my No-Bake Homemade Energy Bars.
They are cheap, easy to make and don't melt. Just remember to mix it very well so they hold together. |

Thanks for the tip! Koffee |
I tried one of those today, it was way too sweat, just like a regular snickers, all they did was take a regular snickers, put MORE caramel on it, squished it flat, and put protein in it.
It was god awful hard to chew even after being in my back pocket in the sun for 2 hours. Hurts my jaw. |
