bedridden for 3 weeks
I was rear ended by a car 3 weeks ago which knocked me unconscious and totaled my bike, but I broke no bones. I've healed rather quickly over the past 3 weeks but my right leg is still not 100% and my feet are a still a bit bruised.
I've managed to get well enough in time for my college's Spring semester, so I will be taking classes.
I am fairly built guy but not huge, 200lb 6'5", and I've been noticeably losing muscle mass in my upper body. Needless to say, I now have NO cardio base.
I can walk just fine(with a still painful calf) but my knees need some conditioning.
Is it right to say that I should begin long and slow steady-state riding to rebuild my fitness and strengthen my knees? I need your advice on maintaining my muscle.
Should I make sure I can handle the high rate before getting back to the weights even if I start over with light weights? S
hould I avoid weights and supplement my riding with a circuit of squats, push ups, lunges, leg raises, and jump rope?
What circuits have you experienced to be effective?
Who has been through a similar situation?

I'm glad you came through this with your life and senses! You've been through a lot. I would get into PT w/someone w/a sports medicine background (not geriatric rehab) and respects your dedication to cycling. Cost should be no object because whoever rear-ended you should be paying out the wazoo for your rehab, pain and suffering.
How's the bike?

I'm well enough to get around and walk, I didn't break any bones, but I just don't know what I need to do get back in shape. I just have 0 stamina
My bike is was wrecked, the rear wheel was torn into four parts, the saddle broke, and the seat stays were caved in. I tossed the frame already, and I didnt really check out the chain stays

Do you have health insurance? If so, find out about PT. They are the best to advise on reducing pain, and what you can safely start again. You're fairly young, so I wouldn't be too paranoid, just remember, stop if it hurts unless you have professional supervision.
