Just made a HUGE batch of Sweet Potatoes w/apples for breakfast before 55m group ride

Another post had me thinking about what is "best" to eat before a hard ride.

Previously I would eat a large bowl of steel cut oats (soaked the night before) with a chopped apple AND banana, cinnamon and maple syrup. Never had a problem but am going to try something different tomorrow.

Made a huge batch of sweet potatoes (again with a couple apples, cinnamon and maple syrup that I then blended with a hand mixer) Will try 1.5 cups worth tomorrow morning, though this stuff is sooo yummy I could eat 3x that amount. Wondering if I will be able to discern the difference in digestion and if it affects my ride

Yikes: Just bumped into this site that has the "Digestion Time of Foods"
https://www.unani.com/digestion_time_of_foods.htm
Sweet potatoes are 3hrs.
Unfortunately oatmeal is not in the list

Another link to a forum a poster claims 60min for starches like sweet potatoes and 90 min for oatmeal. (the 60 min seems more reasonable)

Update. Not sure how much the sweet potatoes helped, but had a GREAT ride. (I was likely fresher for this weekend's group rides because I didn't weight lift during the prior week)
Easily my best, most competitive ride of the year (rather than being pack fodder, I was actually in pseudo contention for the sprint which at its max reached 34mph) 44mile ride avg 22.1mph

Anyway I think there might be something to be said about EASILY digestible foods an hour before a ride (by digestion I am referring specifically to the food in your stomach).

That sounds interesting, Ive made up a couple of extra sweet potatoes at dinner and eaten them in the morning before a ride and they sit in the stomach very well.. I like your mixture and will give it a try.

For a long duration low intensity ride the long digestion time of the sweat potatoes would probably be beneficial. At least I would think so. However, at high intensity it could cause some stomach upset, but if it doesn't it's probably good to have the slow steady supply of carbs.
