Torn ACL
Well, I did it, screwed up my summer plans by skiing a couple weeks ago and tearing my ACL 100% according to the doctor. I am going to have the surgery done in mid april and am being told that I will be able to continue to run and ride but it may take 5 months to get back to where I was.
Do any of you have any experience/reccomendations on coming back from this type of injury? I know there will be PT involved and I feel pretty good about the shape I'm in which I hope will shorten the recovery a bit but would like to hear of others experiences with this.
Thanks, Kevin

Sorry to here about the knee...bummer.
I'm sure being in shape will make a big difference. I tore mine on a dirtbike a few years ago and went the cadaver route for the repair. It took me a about a year to get back to 100%, but I wasn't in the best shape at the time. At 5 months I was probably 90%. Part of my physical therapy was spinning which actually got me interested in cycling.

When you do your PT, make sure you do your knee flexion exercises so that you can maintain your full degree of motion. It's gonna be a pain but it's so worth it at the end.

Take a look at this skiing forum, they have a lot of people in similar situations asking and giving advice:
