PT for Patellar Tendonitis

I was reading another cycling forum recently and I saw a thread that discussed a new (to me) treatment for patellar tendonitis. The treatment consisted of kneeling on a broomstick so that the broomstick pressed into the patellar tendons. Does anyone have any comments on this procedure? Can it make things better? Can it make things worse? I appreciate any advice you can give.
