Non-diabetics supplementing with insulin

Has anyone ever heard of non-diabetic cyclists (or other endurance athletes) taking insulin injections to optimize glycogen reserves in the liver and muscle after meals?

Just curious if it's ever been tried by the pros or if anyone's been caught trying it. Thanks buddies.

no offence but that sounds like a bloody stupid idea, you can easily die from an insulin overdose and you DON'T need to "optimise glycogen reserves in the liver and muscle after meals" you just need to eat properly and healthily.

Marco Pantani was busted for using insulin to recover between stages of the Giro.

Combined with ingestion of sugar, it has been use by body builders (insulin has an anabolic effect in muscle). Sounds like a really bad idea.

This is the reference:

There are very few things that can rob you of a high school diploma -hypoglycemic shock is one of them. Don't do it.

Right - I know risking hyperinsulinemia/hypoglycemia is a dumb idea, and I don't recall saying I was considering it, haha. Like I said, simply curious if it's been done.

Thanks for the reference Glut.
