Swollen Ankle

I've been unable to get an answer elsewhere so I thought I'd try the Forums. I periodically get pretty severe swelling in my left ankle. I noticed it today after having ridden yesterday for the first time in about two weeks. It's not painful but looks ridiculous and I'm concerned about possible health implications. It doesn't seem to affect me in any way and will probably subside by the end of the day. I'm a heavier rider at about 255# but in good shape and my right ankle is rarely affected, I also have had no injuries to either ankle. Although I haven't had a physical in a while, I'm in good health. Do you think it's exercise related, or possibly diet (sodium)? I'll schedule a physical sooner or later but was wondering if anyone had an idea in the interim.

Thanks,

sounds like with one sided swelling you have some variation of venous incompetance (most likely superficial) but have your doc check it out.

Yes, I have this conditon and agree with "cbhungry" about
your seeing a doctor.......ASAP!!!!! This condition is
nothing to mess with and often starts with swelling ankles
first. My condition is managed for now with compression
hose and leg elevation at least 3 hours a day (TV time). I
can also tell you that....IF.....I push to hard riding then
my left hee/ankle hurt so bad I can barely walk for a day.
This conditon is more common if you are overweight and male.

So If you want to continue to walk or to ride get yourself
to a doctor .......soon!!
