Heart Rate Monitor for Cycling and Running

I'm looking at the Polar CS200, it is an upgrade from my current cyclocomputer as it has both cadence and heart rate.

Though I'm looking at getting a HRM for running aswell. Whats everyones advice, what is good for a beginner? Can I somehow combine both???

Chris

Garmin Forerunner series. I have the Forerunner 305 and then I bought the cadence sensor, so I can also use it inside on my rollers during the winter months.

I second Garmin. I've sold a few of them and wish I had the dough to put up.

I had to sell some music equipment to be able to afford the Forerunner 305 and then I took some money from a few of our perfomances and CD sales to purchase other things. I wanted something that could give me some good information when I was done. Without the cadence sensor, you can get some good information about what I did and also what I was doing while I was riding. It is nice knowing where your heart rate is at different speeds and to put that to use while riding. It helps keep my mind working while riding.

I thought it was a good sacrifice, as I was not using everything I had in my music and thought it was better off for someone else to use.

I use a Polar 725 which will read a cadence sensor, a foot pod, and a bike power meter. I think they have an even fancier one now, the RS800CX.
http://www.polar.fi/en/, then search for an online retailer.

I use the forerunner 305 for running an biking. Very Happy. Costco in Canada has them at 179 with HRM. The cadence sensor will cost you another 30.00 and the mount about 10.00

I have a Garmin Forerunner 50. Bought on Ebay for around $50 with the HRM. Another $45 for the speed and cadence sensor which uses the rear wheel for the pickup so it works great on the trainer. Also comes with the USB antenna so you can download your training session. You can also get the shoe pod attachment for running.

Go for the Garmin Forerunner 305. It is down to about $149.00usd some online retailers, with the polar you are going to have to get a foot pod, and bike sensor to get distance on both running and cycling, same goes with Suunto. Not to mention the foot pods for both polar and Sunnto run about $90.00usd not to mention the price of the bike sensor. When you break down the features of what the 305 has to offer, there is not other computer that will be able to do the same thing anywhere in the same ballpark of price, not to mention you do not need 3 seperate things to do what you are looking to do.

Thanks everyone, I have ordered a Garmin Forerunner 305. Also with the cadence sensor and bike mount. This should satisfy my running and cycling needs (atleast for a while :) ).
