Best Multivitamin for males?

age 31

thx

J-McKech 08-24-04 09:54 PM

In men's health I've read that Centrium Silver is the best. They have a bunch of stuff for old men but its good for us younger guys too. I'm 21 and have been using it for awhile

cycleprincess 08-24-04 11:38 PM

If you can find someone who sells Shaklee...it is by far...bar none the best multivitamin around. And I don't even sell it!! I take the iron fortified, but the men's forumla doesn't have iron...duh. I also take vitamin C, E, and of course every athlete in my opinion needs vitamin B (and b6). The multi has all that, but I find the extra B, C and E are very helpful for me. Anywhoo...my two cents!!

steveknight 08-24-04 11:53 PM

it is a MLM program it looks like. I could not find any multi Vitamin on the site at all. I always question MLM product. they are usualy way overpriced.

APEX Multivitamin.

As a personal trainer I reccomend you APEX multivitamins. You can check their website if you like, they are one of the only companies that will send you the research on what they make, and they have very good quality control. Email them if you want.

Apex Fitness

Hope this helps.

As a cheapskate I take the walmart version of Centrum. Way cheaper and if you are just going to pee most of it out anyway I can't see spending too much. on the stuff. :D

it's pricey but worth it to me. If you don't want the C, E and B you can just get the multi vitamin.

ANYTHING WITHOUT IRON

Men should never, ever take Iron without knowing for a fact that they are indeed Iron deficient

Excess iron can damage your internal organs

Some people of N. European / Celtic descent have hemochromatosis (iron overload disease) and don't know it, it's very serious.

steveknight 08-25-04 11:25 AM

It’s pricy because you are supporting all of these independent distributors. Of course to make any money they have to requite more people so the products are way overpriced.

FXjohn 08-25-04 11:28 AM

I am NEVER buying anything from the likes of Shaklee or Amway

dc70 08-26-04 06:04 PM

Oh, don't you know that if you buy from shaklee or amway..
you're likely to piss off the local CVS or Rite-Aid, or _______insert favorite local drug store.
Why what do mean buying vitamins online!?!?!
Thats blasphamy!!!! I tell you!!!! You should support your local Drug store damn it!
Don't you realize that you could be forcing them out of business!?!?!?!
I'm shocked that you people would consider buying vitamins online...for shame....

:p

Hi,
I take Alive. But I only take one every couple of days. After I do a long ride, or the next morning, I'll take one. Says on the bottle 3 a day or something. Yeah, right. It's good stuff, natural, no Iron (if you're a guy that eats red meat no way do you want extra iron) and
the way I take it it's not expensive.

Merton,
there is a lifetime Max dose for Iron. Over that amount and it can cause problems. It's rare, but why take the chance? If you want
to take a couple multivitamins a day, you might want to consider making one iron-free.

slvoid 08-26-04 09:55 PM

Viagra.

Rowan 08-26-04 11:15 PM

A woman who knows how to cook decent, well-balanced and nutritious meals. If you can't find one (and heaven knows they are getting fewer and fewer), learn how to do it yourself. Or make an appointment to see a nutritionist and take his/her advice on what you may need (if anything at all).

I ride A LOT (ie, long distances in the saddle over days, not hours) and only because of that I take Executive Stress multivitamins tablets which have a higher level of Vitamin B complex. Long distance riding leaches Vitamin B out of your system, and can cause gum and tongue ulcers. Vit B also is what makes your urine bright yellow.

Same here. I use the Sam's Club Member's Mark version of Centrum Silver. I break them in half and take 1/2 in the A.M. and 1/2 in the P.M. before bed. That way, hopefully, I'm wasting less.

When training hard I'll add 400 IU of E twice a day with orange juice for some extra anti-oxidants.

Doctor Morbius 08-27-04 02:17 AM

Men should never use an iron supplement unless they have a true deficiency, such as certain types of anemia. Not all anemias qualify.

Women, however, do need iron supplementation due to their menstrual cycle.

RiPHRaPH 08-27-04 04:21 AM

the best one is the one you take everyday. don't sweat it.

late 08-27-04 06:10 AM

Morbius,
800 IU of E every day is just too much. It puts a small strain on the body. If you did a medical study you might see a small increase in mortality. As a healthy young athlete, you could take it for decades without noticeable harm, but if you want it to help you you need a smaller dose. I take a 200 IU that is broad spectrum and has tocotrienols. I don't know how much benefit I get from the beta and gamma tocopherols or the tocotrienols; if any I just suspect nature put those things there for a reason. That is still several times the MDR not counting the betaa, gamma, and totoctrienols. To
tell you the truth, if I could get the level of quality in a 100 iu I would take that. There were some studies that suggested a large amount was good, but they were contradicted by later studies.

No, buying online has nothing to do with it.
I hate Amway and Shaklee because they have that weird pyramid scheme
and they pester you to become a salesman
are you a saleman for one of them??

Knighty 08-27-04 10:50 AM

This is an area where we'll NEVER know what is best to take in the ideal proportions. Add to that which type or brand of multivitamin is best and all hope for figuring this out is lost! B-this and D-alpha-that, flax-this and beta-that...it is way too much overload for me, at least.

I take a generic multivitamin (Costco), 500mg C and 400 IU E and 2 tablespoons of flaxseed daily. I guess every 5 years I'll do an hour of study on the "best" to take and readjust at that time, otherwise eat right, train right, swallow and forget about it.

jukt 08-28-04 04:38 PM

Shaklee basics.

Six pills, or capsules a day.

"are you a saleman for one of them??"

No, I hate that stuff too.

JBBOOKS 08-28-04 04:49 PM

The field of human nutrition and supplementation is so poorly researched it's sad.

No one knows what we are taking in daily, so no one knows what we need. Food today is so highly processed or grown in depleted fields that it's nutritional value is questionable - even if we live in a "western" society.

I started supplementing about 3 years ago. I take a multi-vitamin, an anti-oxidant and a mineral supplement. I haven't had a cold in 3 years and I have performed at my lifetime highs in both strength and cardio fitness exercises.

YMMV
