In a couple of weeks I am cycling from Birmingham to Southampton (England, about 120 miles), and I plan to do 50 miles in each of the first 2 days, and 20 on the last. I am staying with friends on the way, to make it easier, but this is my first trip of this sort, and want to know if this seems reasonable, and also if there are any "golden rules" or tips to help me.
Also, carbohydrates are obviously crucial, but is there anything I really should know about eating when on the move, or helpful snack-type foods (like bananas) that will really help me.
sincerely,
Neil Peel.

Golden rules, or tips.
It all depends on how fit you are. How much riding have you done up to now, ie. miles per day and how much training time per day, for how many days, can you put in during the next few weeks?

Well, it's a good idea to eat about 2 1/2 to 3 hours before you ride. Don't forget to drink about every fifteen minutes. 50 miles really isn't that far, but you should defiently take a few snacks with you. Fruit, bread, and energy bars work great for on the bike foods.
