Numbness, acheing in left arm

Recently I've been getting some numbness/acheing in my left arm. It doesn't happen when I'm exercising (I both do both road cycling and running), but just during everyday activities. Heart problems came to mind, but that wouldn't make any sense?!?! I'm only 20 years old, non-smoker, eat a healthy diet, exercise on a regular basis (been running since I was 12, now I rotate between both running and cycling at least 5 days a week), healthy weight (5'10" and 165 lbs) and no family history of heart problems that I know of. Is it common for some people to have poor circulation in some of their joints? What about nerve problems?

I've been thinking about going to a doctor and having myself checked out. Just wanted to see if anybody had any input on this.

Dane,

Heart problems know no age!!!!!

Yes, it could be this or that. Maybe it is something other than heart problems, but are you really willing to wait and find out? Remember, you may not get a chance to find out!!!

Go to the doctor ASAP!!! Get a complete physical, it's not only for people older than you. Let your doctor, a trained professional tell you what it's not, don't guess!!!

Agree! Numbness, aching, pain of any type for no apparent reason is a warning sign that something is wrong. Could be a pinched nerve or could be something else that needs immediate treatment. A doctor is most qualified to troubleshoot. Go.

Well, I went to a doctor the other day and I checked out fine. Blood pressure, heart rate (HR of 54, after running up a flight of stairs), everything was fine. They even hooked me up to an EKG machine. Couldn't figure out what the deal with my arm was, but it hasn't been bothering me in the past few days anyways.

To celebrate my good health, I ate a big plate of eggs. LOL!

Glad everything is OK, not good to wait or have life get your attention as my high BP did for me.

Its prob. a pinched nerve in your shoulder or a pinched blood vessel in the same. It comes from rolling your shoulder forward (hunching), possibly when road cycling. Try skipping that for a while, or getting a new fit. Its called thorasic outlet syndrom (sp?) and the internet is full of other ways to deal with it too. Hope its not still bothering you, but just in case. Good luck!
