I'm pretty sure there is a forum section specifically on knee pain, take a look at:

Maybe a result of all the sudden pedal mashing?

Try an easier ratio.

Dude! This is the funniest post I've seen in a long time. Yah, see I've been pounding my thumb with this hammer and now it hurts. How can I stop the pain?

#1, put that sucker away and ride a geared bike until you are slaughtering the competition on the LBS group ride. Then you can go to the fixie to stick the shiv further in.

#2, if you don't have a geared bike, change to a 67" gear instead of running that 81". 42 X 17 is the usual. The supposed reason to ride SS or FG is to improve your spin.

#3. Stop complaining about the pain.
