Paper on fructose content of sodas

    http://goranlab.com/pdf/Ventura%20Fructose%20paper.pdf

They found that many sodas contain more fructose than the standard 55:45 ratio that's assumed for HFCS... more like 65:35. And they found some drinks that appear to contain HFCS even though it's not listed on the label. And "mexican" coke appears to use HFCS, not sugar like everyone thinks.

There's also plenty of citations that show why fructose is more unhealthy than sucrose, in case you're doubting it.

Last, the average American drinks 50 gallons of soda a year.

It's funny - reading "Racing Weight" at the moment (a good book BTW) and they give food ranking - with soda being the worst of bad food.

These days I get by with 1, sometimes 2, bought coffees (just to feed my addiction!) and 2-3L of water during the day. Water is highly underrated!

The hilarious thing is that the industry is lobbying to change the name from corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup to simply corn sugar. I guess the other two terms are getting a bad rep so a name change is in order.

Sort of like KFC. Having 'fried' on your name had an unhealthy connotation and changing the name was easier than changing the menu

Don't they already call it by 6 names on the label anyhow?
It would be nice if they would pick one name and stick to it.

The product is garbage; name changes are an easy way to keep on pumping it on everything.

If they were to make make corn syrup illegal and pot legal, society would be healthier and happier

I used to drink about a 12 pack of Mountain Dew a day or MORE for years. Stopped about a year ago cold turkey, and I'm sure I'm just adding years onto my life at this point. I don't think I'll ever go back to drinking soda. There really is no reason to drink it, I'm fine drinking water, or milk and gatorade (REAL sugar) as a backup.

Yeah. The only reason I hadn't stopped in the past was because of the weight dropping issue. I've always been a skinny guy(140-160lbs @ 5'11"), so losing even more weight would be horrible. I dropped about 15 pounds in a month everytime I stopped drinking sodas cold turkey. This time was about 20, probably because of the cycling on top of it. But fix eating habits, and can at least maintain lower weight.
