Bike trainer questions

So, kind of new to the bike trainer game and was given a black burn track stand trainer. It seems to be ok. I did not expect to much. My problem is, it seems to be melting my tire and gets supper hot. FYI I have a designated trainer wheel and tire

My main concern is the rubber is melting to the roller. Is this bad?
What can I do to stop this?
Am I missing something, like an instruction manual:lol: or from the instruction manual that I need to be doing?
Lastly can the dang thing burn up? I can cook an egg on this when I am finished.

Unrelated to original question, but also a trainer question:
I live in a 2nd floor apartment, and my downstairs neighbour complains about a rumbling sound when I ride the trainer. I have the thing on a doubled thickness of yoga mat already, is there anything else I can do to reduce the noise?

i would suspect that your tire is continually slipping on the roller due to insuff tension. crank it down until you see the tire pooch out at least as wide as the rim. there may be some slight squeaking until things get warmed up but soon enough you should have a solid connection. I set mine up this way (Kinetic Road Machine, cheap Forza F2 before) and have never had any tire issues. This is how the LBS set me up on the computrainer so I just took note and it works.

put a piece of 1/2" plywood on top of an old mattress? seriously man that's a tough one. just curious is it a mag trainer or fluid?

If the tire is moving against the trainer wheel another thing you can do besides tightening the trainer is to lower tire pressure to help the tire grip the trainer wheel better.

All setup aside, trainer do eat through tires quickly. There are trainer specific tires made of tougher compounds if you intend to keep using the trainer. However, I hear they don't ride well on the road so you might get annoyed swapping out tires as you switch between trainer and road.

$0.02.

Well - I have a mag trainer, my roommate has a fluid trainer. They've complained about both (although he rides A LOT harder than I do, so I might be ok on the fluid trainer - I think it might be more the vibration than the noise of the wheel though)

fluid's are much quieter according to my wife, but other than working with your neighbor's schedule, or convincing them to buy a bike and trainer and join the sufferfest, maybe try a tile floor in your place or a room that is over their closet or bathroom. good luck!
