Anyone use a big ol' ugly seat on their trainer???
I will be purchasing a new road bike very shortly, and am relegating my Cannondale CAAD6 to the Cyclops for spinning/indoor riding. Since I can spend some time on there, was wondering if I might solve some bottomside issues by getting one of those nasty big ugly wide seats. Got the idea from a cycle machine in a hotel workout room recently. I hammered off about 20 miles before a meeting and was soooo comfortable on it. Cushy buns I must say. Just exploring if it's something anyone does due to the amount of sitting versus standing while on a trainer. Also, was considering putting some aero TT type bars on it to lean out on. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Don't do it. If you will not be riding on a big cushy saddle, why have it on the bike? For many, those big butt saddles cause damage to the sciatic nerve which may keep you off the bike for some time. The aerobar idea is good because you will want to lean on something while on the trainer for over an hour. I took mine off some months ago and find it hard to hang on to riding without them. As much as I need to not rely on them, I will put them on soon.

Thanks for the advice travelmama. Maybe I'll just go for aerobars for now. I was afraid of judging too hastily with one short ride on the gym bike.

Ride your bike in exactly the same configuration you will use on the road. It's a trainer, right? So you want to train on it. It's not an end in itself. Don't use aerobars if you won't be on them the same proportion of time on the road. Use the same saddle. If it's uncomfortable on the trainer, it'll be uncomfortable on the road. So get a saddle you can sit all day without losing the function of your privates.

My wife says my set is really ugly in the trainer, but I have a B17 saddle and keep the saddle and settings exactly the same on or off the trainer. So I guess she means MY seat.
It helps to insure I am not changing my bike position and helps keeping the same rear end position is used on the road as on the trainer.
