My sister would like to ask a question about her shoes

Hi,
When we ride very far (say over 10-15 miles), my big toes, especially the left one, get sore and sometimes numb. I don't believe my shoes (they're Shimanos, and my pedals are Shimano SPD) are too tight, because I can walk in them for some time without them hurting. Any idea why this is?

Check your feet placement. If your SPD's are attached to your shoes too far in front of the balls of the feet, it causes you to place more power in your toes in your downstroke than through the center of your feet, which puts more stress on your toes. If you reposition your SPDs correctly, it could solve your problem, I think, for the longer rides.

agreed... move the cleat back farther on the foot.. my friend had the exact same problem and when he moved his cleat back past the halfway point (ever so slightly behind the ball of his foot) the foot pain went away. My cleats are exactly under the balls of my feet and slightly twisted inwards (to point my heel outwards) and I've never had any problems with foot pain. My pedals are the shimano 520's.
