What's Your Resting Heart Rate?
Hello again, everyone!
I just got my new Polar FT7 heart rate monitor in the mail today and have been playing around with it quite a bit. I can't wait to take my first ride while wearing it tonight!
I have already found charts on the net that show good/poor/etc. heart rates for males/females in a given age group, but I am curious what some of everyone's here are. Please answer these questions:
1. Age?
2. Height?
3. Weight?
4. Average miles/week ridden?
5. Resting Heart Rate?
Here's mine:
1. 29
2. 5'10"
3. 198
4. 75
5. ~62

Just out of curiosity, how do you guys measure your resting heart rate?
Do you do it just as you wake up by feeling your pulse? Do you use a heartrate monitor? Do you measure it before / after a workout? Do you measure it on an off day? Or do you measure it every day at the same time and make, say, a weekly average?
Do you measure your rate as you're standing? Sitting? Lying down on a bed?
anyway I guess:
26
5'9''
152
100-125mi
55-56bpm

I'm no expert as I just got my first ever heart rate monitor in the mail yesterday, but I know your resting heart rate can vary if you're sitting up, laying down, etc. It should be the same before and after a workout considering you've given yourself enough time to rest, I believe.
When I measured mine to start the thread, I was sitting at my desk having done no exercise yet.

3. 158
4. 10 hours
5. 48-56 depending on rested or recent hard training
I get up in the morning, pee, get dressed, then lie on the couch for 5 minutes. Then I stand and also record HR after 2 minutes standing: 56-66 depending on training state.
Use a HRM. Every day. Never use an average - graph it. It will follow your workout schedule. Important to make that connection. High resting or standing HR = need to rest a day or two.

2. 5'11"
3. 180 (down from 214!)
4. 200-250 miles/week, 3K miles so far this year.
5. 55-65bpm
I take my bpm in the morning via an iPhone HR monitor that shines the flash into your finger and records the blood pulses. I've compared it to my Garmin HR strap and it's pretty much spot on. I usually take it after hitting the snooze...relaxing in bed for 9 minutes...do NOT allow the alarm to startle me again...then take the bpm.

Some impressively low numbers here, especially taking age into account.

1. 60 yrs old

3. 198 lbs
4. 250 miles
5. 27 bpm
The 27 bpm is accurate, 1) done in the hospital recovery room with a finger monitoring, 2) checked with my HRM at 4:30am for 5 days before I got up for the gym, 3) prior to my getting a HRM, I also checked it at 4:30am for 1 full minute with my finger. I've had EKG Stress tests, echocardiogram, nothing is every wrong.
