I like it when you guys get a reminder that www actually stands for world-wide-web, there is a whole planet out there guys yuk yuk. Anyway, I have had the same issue, and the advice is right on the mark. I found very quickly that the short burst of sustained effort need to pick up the bunch when they take off is well worth it.

why do metric countries limit the road speeds to less than U.S.? Because metric systems sounds fast! 100 KM/H holy cow! 80 has got to be fast enough for secondary roads. Only 50 MPH for god's sake!

What you do is dedicate your life to the bike, the gym (strength), you live on a clean diet, you have good supplement knowledge, your getting good recovery and you get your 8+ hours of sleep per night.

U catch my drift... Wanna be better than the next guy, train harder then him, simple as that and be tough. This ain't no sport for puffs...

Most of all try to enjoy it. Its going to benefit you in so many ways even if you don't make it too the elite level.
