YATCCQ - Yet Another Time-Crunched Cyclist Question - how does racing fit in?

I'm following the New Competitor program for the Time-Crunched Cyclist. I'm just getting started and I'm having trouble assembling all the details.

How do races alter the training plan? For instance, saturday and sunday are mostly endurance rides. what if i have a race on one of those days?
