1-legged drills not good?

I vaguely recall reading a compelling, well-reasoned arguement for why 1-legged drills are *not* recommended...not valuable at best, potentially dangerous at worst...but of course now I can't find the article nor anything to support that position. Anyone know what I'm talking about or have some good data points either way? Thanks.

I found OLP intervals to help my climbing a lot. I don't think they raised my power output particularly, but they increased my ability to survive multiple pass climbs at high power outputs (for me) with legs intact and usable. They're also great for evening out leg imbalances. They're a free (assuming one has a trainer or rollers) way to imitate having Powercranks or Smartcranks. There isn't much data on improvements from using OLP, but there is a lot of information about these independently freewheeling cranks, which are the same thing as doing OLP all the time with both legs. So:

First the latest news, that they don't help at all:
https://forum.slowtwitch.com/cgi-bin/...i?post=1679946
however this study has a lot of problems. It's been discussed all over the intertubes.

But I find the balance to be on the positive side:

And of course you can go to the Powercranks site:

What do you think of going to an office building and walking up a few flights of stairs using only one leg?

Been thinking of trying that.

If I got used to it, I could throw some weight in a backpack.

Haha I'm such an idiot. I was reading this site and their description of how athletes who use their product get amazing results and I immediately started thinking this was awesome. Like.. YEP IF THE SITE SAYS IT'S TRUE, THEN IT MUST BE...

Man...

As far as I know nothing improves your training besides accurately being able to monitor your progress, which Power Meters are awesome for when cycling because the terrain / weather / drafting can change your effort so much... speed / hr is just crap...

All the machines and tools and crap in the world are just tricks to make you shred your legs more. Just pedal as hard as you can in every way you can imagine ( uphill, down hill, flats, low gears, high gears ) and you can't fail to improve unless you're at your genetic max already ...somehow...

We did the one-leg drill earlier this year too. Sure hurt like hell, so it must been pretty effective to improve SOMETHING haha

There's actually a very low-cost way to monitor your progress which is more accurate than any technology. See who you can drop on your group ride. If it's a group you've been riding with for years, it's really easy to see what training works and what doesn't.
