What steps did you take the day before you rode your 50 mile ride last weekend?

If you have time, take a short very easy ride just to get the legs moving. If you don't have time don't worry about it. Eat a decent healthy meal, nothing unusual. Don't stuff yourself to "carbo load", it's too late now and it doesn't work that well for cycling anyhow.

There is a similar thread over in the 41 (Road Cycling section)... Lots of good advice, it's pretty much what I did the night before my 50 yesterday. I will add the bowl of ice cream with chocolate syrup I had mid-evening - it was pretty easy to convince myself that the extra carbs from fat plus protein were beneficial.

I also made a point to have as many things ready to go the evening before as possible - bike on the carrier (with full tire pressure and lubed chain), clothes clean and laid out, sports drinks mixed and chilling, ready to pour into bottles - with a checklist. My brain does not always function at 100% first thing in the morning, so I like to be as prepared as possible.

i hope you have a better experience than i had 2 years ago. I did the first annual tour de cure here in sacramento and it was terrible. I did the ride in tribute of my step mom who passed away to diabetes so the ride meant a lot to me. My GF decided to do it as well so our pace was a little slow but still averaged 15mph. However do to the extreme winds (over 30mph) the food stations packed up early and when a lot of us riders go to food stations there was nothing there! Then at the end of the race everyone was gone at 2pm! needless to say we did not do it again this past year

My wife and son did the 42 mile in Rochester, too, and had a blast. It was interesting listening to the amateur radio operators as they were sweeping the course - there were a lot of people being carted back to R.I.T. on the SAG, a couple of calls for ambulances, and a couple of riders who requested rides to the grocery store. ;-)
Knows the weight of my bike to the nearest 10 pounds.
