pop and chips night before a big event endurance

Would eating a bag of chips and a Coke or any pop/soda the evening before a big bike endurance event be bad?

have a 100 mile mtb race the next morning.

would eating chips the night before have any benefit for energy? in the morning?

Or what would you all recommend as good food to eat the evening before?
    thanks

Personally, I eat what I normally eat.
There have been many days when I haven't felt like riding, but there has never been a day when I was sorry I rode.

Yes, just eat what you normally eat for dinner.

Hopefully pop and chips isn't your normal dinner.

But pop and chips is a good mid-ride snack.

    I stopped pop/soda when I started cycling.

But I eat chips, A LOT, and never really had any problems (keep in my mind I'm 22 years old so my body still doesn't care what I eat). I basically rely on Tostitos as a carb load tool many times a week. I like them for the carbs, but also for the salt/sodium/electrolytes. I've eaten them as a midnight snack many times before 100+ mile races, and definitely wouldn't think twice about it.

Buy and read Nancy Clark's Sports Nutrition Handbook for information on basic nutrition.

You should be concerned with getting enough carbs the day before your ride. Chips are mostly fat but will give you carbs also. They won't hurt but they aren't the best food and you certainly wouldn't want that to be part of your regular diet.

Instead of asking if pop and chips are ok, try asking a different way. Try asking what's better than pop and chips. To me, I personally like a Coke and Potato Chips, but I also know that I'm just giving in to what tastes good.
