Cassette for Dedicated Trainer Wheel

I am about to put together an old wheel that I have with a trainer tire and a cassette for dedicated use on the Kurt Kinetic as the shorter days don't allow me to ride much in the evenings during the week. I have a SRAM Apex Group with the compact cranks and an 11-32 cassette as I have some pretty steep grades where I live. I was wondering if I should get a cassette to match the one already on my road bike? Or should I get an 11-23 as I won't be climbing hills on the trainer and will have a better selection of gears in the appropriate range?

I was initially leaning toward the second option, but I would like some other opinions incase I have forgotten to consider something. Thanks!

Get the 11-23. You would never use a 32 on a KK trainer.

Have a look at the KK speed-power graph and figure out what speeds you will typically be riding at on the trainer and choose a gear that results in whatever cadence is comfortable for you. Normally this would be in the 80-120 range.

Okay, thanks. That is what I was leaning toward, but just wanted some confirmation.
