A guy that my wife works with is a road biker, and just bought a high tech (for lack of a better word) trainer. In addition to expected instrumentation, he watches a display (not unlike the Triplets of Belleville, if you've seen that), and also has it hooked up to the internet so that he can "virtually" race with others. According to my wife, he was racing with a guys in Australia, Germany, and U.S. at the same time. Even lets you simulate drafting, too. I thought she said it was CycleOps, but I didn't see anything conspicuous on their web site.

Anyone familiar with these? Certainly sounds like it would make training indoors more engaging...

Sounds like a CompuTrainer, from Racer Mate. Check out their web site: http://www.racermateinc.com/computrainer.asp

I agree. It is probably the Computrainer. They (Racermate) offer a multi-rider software program but I believe there are also third party products that allow you to race/train with other riders.

I have one and it makes riding indoors much more tolerable. I highly recommend it if you are really into cycling. The downside is they are pricey. There is a Yahoo Group for Computrainer owners at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/computrainer. One of the top people at Racermate is active on the forum so it is very helpful to have questions answered and to obtain support very quickly through the forum. Hope that helps.

I haven't seen it, but yeah, that looks like what my wife was describing. Looks pretty cool.
