    My Fitness Pal app

I've been using this IPhone app for several months and it is very good for documenting diet, weight changes, nutrition, daily caloric intake. The weekly caloric, nutrient, and net calorie breakdowns are super valuable for understanding just what your eating. It can be crossed linked with fitness apps (I use Runmeter...but I can't cross link it drat!) and device apps (heart monitors for example).

So how has it helped me? Stabilized net calorie consumption, stopped goofy weight shifts from hydration dehydration cycles and pig out cycles (shows up as wild weight swings even if I'm only weighing myself in morning), confirmed that my eating pattern was balanced between fats, carbs, proteins but off on sodium and low on sugars. Most importantly...I know how much food equals energy and days that I don't ride...I'm not constantly stuffing myself. But days that I do ride..I can adjust food in morning and noon to set myself up for late afternoon rides. It could become my most important cycling tool next to the bike and kit.

Eventually it will nail down my basal caloric metabolism (possibly around 1800 calories per day) and help me be a better rider as I age (I'm 58). The added benefit? I'll be way sleeker (maybe I can go sub 170!).

In the olden days we used to do that with a pencil and a slip of paper/notebook. Slightly, more tedious than the app, but not by much. I used to remember the calories and salient nutritional info of the majority of things I ate. With the app, I no longer do. Now I have trouble remembering where I left my damn phone, the car keys...

I been using it since Feb 2012 and I really like it too. I love how easy it makes logging food. I do struggle getting my BMR set cause it changes so much from the weight loss. And struggling some with the calories burned especially on short rides since I dont have a power meter, and most exersise apps over estimate the burn too much, but that said, between this app and my cycling apps, They are the only reason I can justify spending the ******** amount of money the phone costs each month.

It's yhe best app out there for tracking food. What I like is that you can take a picture of your food if you don't know the calories and it will tell you the calories.

I started using this app 30 days ago and I have lost 17.6 pounds in that time. Having the calories monitored is a real eye opener! Some of the things I was eating were killing any chance I had at real sustained weight loss. Also.....I feel healthier! Like I said, it is only my first month using the app, but I am SOLD on it! It has basically changed my life for the good (Health that is.)

I just started myplate. I didn’t like that myfitnesspal did not allow for measuring in grams for all items. I can see how any caloric tracker is very useful.

I'd had success with Lose It, but downloaded this last night, and I think I already prefer it. The ability to track water intake alone may be enough for me to switch. The food database also seems much more up to date with grocery store brands, which means fewer "custom" foods to input.

The Barcode scanner feature makes that very easy!

I use it along with my power meter to avoid yoyoing.
One day eat too much. The next day not enough.
My weekly low weight has been the same for months on end while my cycling has been improving.
    Love this app.

True. I was on Weight Watchers for years and used their early online tracker. Then I discovered others that were free, and actually better, Starting with FatSecret, which I used for years. Now I use Training Peaks because I like the way it tracks fitness activities better. I tried FitnessPal, and it was about equal to FatSecret..
As much as you paid for that Beemer [Mercedies, Audi, Escalade], I'm surprised it didn't come equipped with turn signals.

Same here. I lost ~75lbs in about 7 months using MyFitnessPal (started on July 1st, 2012). Highly recommended if you want to understand and control your calorie intake.
