Total Mileage Should be Done prior to 100 mile event
ok so its march 9 2014 at time of this message. I am racing Mohican 100 on May 31 2014. In 100 mile MtB event.
Now how many miles/km
should i have ridden in proper training prior to this event?
As i want to place decent in this event. In other words ride at my full potential.
So what type of mileage should i have under my belt at this time and end of MArch and also in total just prior to event?
Feedback please. Or opinions on what other cyclists dones in mileage for a 100 mile mt bike event
thanks

If you're racing 100 miles, you'd probably want to be comfortable riding 100 miles.

You have to take everything into account, including total climbing, not just distance. I've never done 100-mile training rides before a century. If you've done at least 60 or so, you'll be fine. Proper nutrition and pacing is also key.

That might work for riding a century, but I'm thinking that if he wants to race a century, he might want to be quite familiar with the distance (and of course, bicycle fit, nutrition, etc.) so that he won't have to worry so much about pacing in order to get through, but can think about pushing it now and then to get a better placing.

I completed a 12 week training plan for a non-competive, fairly flat (3000 ft elevation change) century recently. This was my first century. I rode 43 training rides, 1200 total miles. I had three training rides of 75, 85, and 93 miles, completing the 93 mile ride two weeks before my event. These three long rides were invaluable in being prepared for my century- nutrition, psychology, and logistics. I learned the details of the route I would be riding and basically duplicated that in my training. By the end of the training period, I was riding approx 150 mi per week. I schedule two light training weeks into the plan.
Good luck.

I've not ridden the Mohican 100 but in my younger days I've ridden through Mohican Park. You're talking about serious single track. You'll need the endurance of a road century and the bike handling skills of a MTB.
It's very hilly if I recall. My opinion is you should be able to do a road century at will, and hope the gods of MTB smile upon you the day of the race.

200 miles a week, hilly rides on a road bike, for several weeks before the event, with hill repeats once a week. A few fast MTB rides focusing on skills - these don't need to be long at all.
