First tri of the year done

Last Sunday (5/15) I did my first triathlon of the year. It was a modified sprint - 450yd pool swim, 18k bike and 5k run. Total time this year of 1:10:52 with a bike split of 33:29 this year and 37:34 last year for a nice four minute improvement. However this year it was 41f out and windy with over half of the bike course going into the wind. How you ask can over half of it be into the wind? Well it had many turns and not all of the roads were right angles.

I wore myself out to keep up my speed that my run offset my better swim. Still good for a top 21% of the entire pack.

This tri is advertised as a spring warm-up / training / one for newbies and does have all of the abilities in it which is great to see.

Now I'm ready for the longer ones coming the rest of the year.

Jon

Interesting seeing this thread near the top as I just finished my last planned tri of the year on Sunday here in Chicago.

They are addictive - darn it!

Congrats! Beating 4 out of every 5 people in the race is not too shabby. 41 degrees! Man, I would've been a popsicle. I can handle hot and humid, and windy. But the cold. No way. I salute you. Great job.

Yeah, I chickend out of one at the last minute Memorial Weekend of 2014. Very cold spring here, and that morning air temp at 7 am was 33 degrees with frost everywhere, and the friday afternoon before the lake temp was 61 in the shallows. Just could NOT handle that.

I have an Orca wetsuit, but still, damn, 33 degrees air, 61 degree water or colder. Can't tolerate that much cold.

So, I did the very same Tri in August, 83 degree air temp, 75 degree water temp. Sweet!
