I was wondering... who prefers Campy Record Bike coponents and who prefers Shimano Dura-Ace bike components. I've done some research and found that both are of equally good quality and pretty much the same price. One major difference I've noticed is that with Campy shifters you are able to down shift multiple cogs at a time, whereas with Shimano you can only shift one cog at a time. I was wondering if anyone had tried both, and if so, which one they preferred. Also, have you noticed any other major differences between them? If you haven't tried both, do you like the one you have now? I currently have Shimano 105 components, and I probably won't be upgrading soon, but just in case I happen to ask for new components for Christmas/Birthday presents I would like to know what type to upgrade to. This is an age old debate. I have only used Shimano and have no complaints.

I did a lot of research into this in recent months. I just switched from dura-ace to campy chorus and I'll never go back. I've been told that 2005 Chorus is pretty close to Record from the previous couple of years. Currently, due to low dollar, Chorus and Dura Ace are roughly equivalent price-wise while Record gets much more expensive. Both my coach (with nearly a decade of experience) and my favorite bike mechanic were strongly in favor of Campy.

My girl hands are simply too small for the dura ace so I love being able to differentiate between the shifters. The shape of the brake hoods is more comfortable. They are substantially lighter. The cable housing can be directed out of the way. I was also told that my Campy components would last longer and could be rebuilt rather than replaced when they do fail.
