Does anyone else hate the way tri shorts fit?

I've got a pair of DS and Titan tri shorts. Both of them have 5 or 6 in. inseams, which I guess is the fashion. I hate them both because the elastic grippers grab right across the big part of the hamstring and I spend the entire run worrying about whether it's going to cause a cramp. (My favorite shorts were a cheap pair of Cannondale bike shorts with a thin synthetic chamois, but I finally wore them out and they don't seem to make them anymore).

The Pearl Izumi Kawaihae Tri Race Short (https://kozy.com/itemdetails.cfm?ID=5289) has a 9in inseam and I'm thinking of buying a pair even though I've never seen them for less than $74 (!).

Any other suggestions for tri shorts that fit like traditional cycling shorts?

My TYR jammer fits like a pair of bike shorts. I use it for the tri's where the bike section is short, simply because it lacks any padding.

I have a DeSoto tri suit with an 8" or 9" inseam. The only problem I have is that some races like to mark you above the knee and I don't have much room. It's pretty silly.

If you are having troubles with the grippers on the ends of them, fold them up.
This is a picture of me, you can see how I have done it. I find it alot more comfortable..

Thanks, Batman. I've tried that and it helps a little but I think the main thing is that I'm just not comfortable in shorts of that length. Short shorts (like my 80s-vintage track shorts) are fine, long shorts like my regular cycling shorts are fine, but mid-thigh just annoys me.

I do like that singlet, though.

Ya, I refuse to change to our new team one. I only use the new ones for the team pictures and for training. All my races are in that one. Though it is starting to rip a little The dumb team director keeps picking stupid colours......meh, whatever....I am an original team member, so I have the right to wear this whenever I want.

I wear the Louis Garneau's and they come almost to my knee. They're close to 11" inseam.

These are great shorts. I have one pair, and will only use them for racing. I will not race in another.

I find tri shorts uncomfortable for the "boys." I don't like the way they smash them. I like the good old days when most of us wore speedo briefs. They are much more supportive.

I was just thinking about that. I had a god-awful pair of green-and-blue splash design Speedos. Sheesh, I'm embarrased to even think about. Luckily, the finish-line photos have been lost.

But, you're right. It was pretty comfortable.

Like is it bad form to wear only the Speedo's now? I did a tri 25 years ago and that was the only thing available. I am getting ready to do about three or four this summer and I was planning to wear only Speedo's for all three legs (with a shirt on for the bike and run. Some decorum is necessary at my age.)

What's the drill? I hope you won't say I will be the ONLY person doing this!

There are a few guys around here that still wear speedos. Not many, but it's still done.

Yeah, I'm trying to think. I may have seen one or two Speedos on male triathletes in the last year or so. You see real short shorts on the girls. Not quite bikini bottoms but more like the shorts you see on Olympic runners.

Around here there are some that speedo it up, BUT, they are all super ripped, and i think they do it to show off.....Well thats what I like to think.....

I am anything but "ripped", but I found them the most comfortable sportswear for races. I remember the days ( 7 or 8 years ago) when my wife would go to the races just to see the men "in their tiny suits." (her words) She's not coming to the races very often any more!!

I would actually prefer to wear cycling shorts (not tri) that have a shorter inseam. Traditional biking shorts with the long inseam don't flatter my body type. Does anyone know if I can buy a men's biking short with a shorter inseam?

I just bought some TYR tri shorts from a local swim shop. Not a swimsuit but true tri-shorts with a small thin pad. They had both long and short versions and I chose the long. The short ones were too tight on my thighs for the size that was tight everywhere else and tended to slide up when jogging around the store. I have yet to test them out though so my only experience so far is trying them on in the store.

Good luck finding something you like.

are so comfortable I wear them under gym shorts for general gym workouts for moisture control, weight training, cycling, running, anything, oh and of course cycling.
