how are you liking that leader?

riding4freedom 05-25-07 12:47 AM

I'm surprised no one's posted (or admitted to riding) Normann's bike. When I raced Wildflower this year, so many people were riding it. Perhaps it's not as popular around the rest of the globe?

I really like it a lot. I don't have much to compare it to, but I really can't ask for more from it at least.

What's going on there with your bars??? Is that two sets of bullhorns and some jacked-up aero bars????

Now that you mention it, there is something odd about that photo I hadn't noticed. I had to do some fiddling to reduce the size and resolution to meet BF attachment size limits, so maybe I goofed up something there. Apart from a positive rise adjustable stem the front end of the bike is conventional, with an 8 cm drop from saddle to aerobar pads.

Current tires are a Michelin Dynamic on the rear (rotated from the front) and a Krylion Carbon on the front. Topeak Road Morph pump is on the seat tube, and i've got a pouch for food on the top tube, a gel flask on the stem, and the cyclometer (Cateye Astrale 8) mounted to a Minoura Swing Grip under the stem. Seat is the original Fizik Aliante with a DeSoto neoprene cover. Drivetrain includes Truvativ compact cranks (with 50/34 chainrings), 105 rear derailuer, Tiagra front derailuer, and a SRAM 12-26 casette (from which i removed the 26t cog and replaced it with a 29t cog for climbing). :D

How do you like the T2 with your road geometry? I'm running Jammer GTs, but was thinking about something with a little more extension, like the T2s. Would combine that with a forward post though.

I think it's because the pic was taken from below horizontal and the fact there doesn't appear to be any drop from the bars to the stem. Coupled with a shadow, it does look strange.

Woah.... Wicked!

Now that, boys and girls, is a non-UCI-legal seat position. :)

And some serious aero bar extension.

The poor man's TT rig (also my road race bike when sans-aero bars and repositioned seat)

Circa 1993 Peugeot 531 frame, Shimano 550 wheels, Tiagra/105/RX100 drivetrain, Syntace clip-on bars.

Anyone have any suggestions regarding position??

I'm no expert, but I think you look to be reaching a bit with your elbows so far forward. That is probably because it is a true road bike. I say whatever can get you across the finish line!

I agree with rplong.

To fit a road bike (which I did for years) -

Push the saddle as far forward on the rails as possible (you will need to also then raise the seat to keep the same saddle distance from the BB) to shorten the reach.

Also to try and flatten the back a little by lowering the bars. As long as it doesn't impact your power output.

Lots of good positioning information on http://www.slowtwitch.com/mainheadin...r/techctr.html or for more technical feedback information on http://biketechreview.com/phpBB2/index.php

Pretty much my thoughts already.

I raised the seat and pushed it as far forward as I could just for this race (but it's a fairly offset post). I thought about dropping the bars a bit, but as I'm constantly swapping this bike back and forth between TT and Road setup, I really couldn't be bothered.

I'm digging the FSA chainrings. What are they, (53/39, etc...)? I am selling my Blackwell Research rear disc and am getting a HED 3c rear. How does your HED ride?

Thanks. The chainrings are 55/44. I had to get them big because my wheels are 650s.

I'm not sure how the carbon-rimmed HED3s ride, but mine is great. It's a little less stiff than the Velocity Deep V wheels I usually ride. When I first rode with the HED, I had to stop a couple of times to check if my rear tire had flatted because it felt wobbly. But I'm used to it now so it's fine.

Thought I'd join the fray...

2005 49cm Orbea Aletta D/A in training mode.
Mavic Ksyrium Elites, Profile T2's and Strike saddle...
Fits me perfect (short legs, long(ish) torso).

joevella 06-12-07 05:10 AM

here is an update on mine...

An update to my Leader:
added: xtr long cage rear deraileur ( what a nice piece.. )
FSA chainring, after my worn shimano chainring ate my leg - 9 stitches.
Cut down my aero bars a bit.
Finished my bar tape and rerouted my cables better
Gave up on the Azzotto seat - LBS took my money and closed the store
Heart rate monitor now mounted on the bars
Still to go: Tufo Tubular clinchers sitting in customs.. 220 psi, here we gooo..
( It may not look like a big drop - but I have short arms, long legs and scoliosis, so for a
guy that can't touch his toes - it's a good drop. )
